Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Facilities team as a Facilities Supervisor at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals committed to enhancing the patient & customer experience, with a passion for providing high-quality customer service.

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31st January 2026. If interested in applying for the secondment, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities

The Facilities Supervisor plays a key role, working on their own initiative to undertake delegated tasks from the Operational Services Manager. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning team members\’ work schedules and resource requirements;
  • Coordinating the work of the team to ensure goals are reached;
  • Conducting quality audits;
  • Assisting in recruitment, performance management, induction, training, PADRs, and employee relations policies (disciplinary, sickness, grievance).

The ideal candidate will have completed or be working towards an NVQ level 3 qualification and should possess:

  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • An understanding of Health & Safety guidelines and risk assessments.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Working hours are 14:00 – 20:00, three shifts per week including weekends.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Supervisory or management qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience;
  • Willingness to undertake relevant qualifications (e.g., Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Intermediate Food Safety and Allergen Awareness).

Desirable:

  • Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Intermediate qualification;
  • NVQ Level 2 in cleaning services, customer care.

Experience

Essential:

  • Evidence of continuing professional development;
  • Knowledge of food hygiene legislation, pest control, security, health & safety, fire procedures;
  • Experience in healthcare facilities, cleaning, catering, or portering services;
  • Knowledge of infection control.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Advanced Food Safety;
  • Experience managing staff.

Skills

Essential:

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Synbiotix);
  • Prioritisation and delegation skills;
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and colour-coded systems;
  • Effective communication skills with patients, visitors, and colleagues.

Desirable:

  • Training staff within own area;
  • Welsh language skills (levels 1-5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing).
