Facilities Operative (Retail Assistant) Royal Gwent Hospital

We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Facilities Operative (Retail Assistant) to join our Facilities team at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

This is a varied role supporting catering and retail services, ensuring high standards of food service, hygiene, and customer care across the hospital.

There are 3 posts available with the following hours:-

Post 1 - 36.5 hours to be worked mornings, days and afternoons over 5 shifts per week.

Post 2 11 hours to be worked 14:30 - 20:00 on a Saturday and Sunday

Post 3: 26 hours to be worked 12:00 - 20:00 & 16:00 - 19:30 over 4 shits per week

Currently we are unable to provide certificates of sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the Home Office\'s criteria. Anyone requiring a certificate of sponsorship is therefore unable to be shortlisted and interviewed

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve meals, snacks, and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Prepare basic food items and assist with hospitality functions.
  • Operate tills, handle cash, and complete cashing-up procedures.
  • Replenish vending machines and retail stock, following good stock control practices.
  • Maintain hygiene standards in kitchens, retail areas, and equipment in line with Food Safety and Health Board policies.
  • Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and storage of goods.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of undertaking a facilities role.

Knowledge & Training

  • Good basic education
  • Level 2 Food Safety or requirement to attain
  • Willingness to undertake accredited & mandatory training relevant to the role
  • Basic IT skills
  • Spoken or written Welsh language
  • NVQ level 1/2 in Facilities Services and/or Customer Services
