The post holder will be a Specialty Doctor within the Mental Health Service, based at Cwm Coch, Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan, Blaenau Gwent. They will work alongside the existing Consultant in the Blaenau Gwent Borough and together will provide senior medical input to the inpatient ward. They will positively respond to requests from Team Members who need advice in the day-to-day management of adult patients within the ward and contribute to the development of adult mental health services in the borough.

As a senior employee of the Health Board, the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensure the provision of a high-quality clinical service
  • Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
  • Undertake all work in accordance with the Health Boards procedures and operating policies
  • Conduct clinical practice in accordance with the contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division and Health Boards service plans
  • Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board

Job responsibilities

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer: Enhanced check with barred list information, including - an adults barred list check. Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
