The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Do you have a passion for working with patients in the mental health setting? We are looking for a Dietitian with great problem-solving skills to join our team, supporting older adults with nutritional needs and mental health challenges to live well. The post-holder will gain experience of working with individuals with mental illness and will have a compassionate and flexible approach to Dietetic care. They will also provide education, training and expert support to develop the diet and nutrition knowledge and skills of service users, their family, carers and staff. They will be encouraged and supported to engage in supervision and ongoing training. You will have the benefit of working with our current small team of mental Health Specialist Dietitians and have the operational support of the larger community dietetic team. For candidates with an interest, there will also be opportunity to gain dietetic experience in other aspects of clinical work as part of the wider Mental Health or Community Dietetic teams. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. Where appropriate, appointment via Annex 21 can be supported; via this route a successful applicant will be paid at 75% of a band 6 wage and follow a 12-month training plan to move onto the band 6 pay scale.

Main duties of the job: An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Specialist Band 6 Dietitian to work within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Tier 2 Adult Mental Health Services. The post-holder will be responsible for Dietetic input to a number of the community mental health teams and tier 2 older adult specialist mental health wards across Gwent. You will work alongside the older adult multidisciplinary team of nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech therapists and psychiatrists, and contribute to the assessment and care of older adults at different stages of their mental health difficulties including individual, group, community and specialist older adult ward in-patient care. The post-holder will gain understanding of the main psychological therapies and treatments for a range of mental health conditions and work within tier 2 adult MH services and older adult MH teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate a good experience, knowledge and understanding of common mental health conditions and have enthusiasm for working with this population. You will be expected to travel to a range of sites, and work both face to face and virtually to allow improved access for families and care closer to home. Your professional base will be with Ty Gwent with ABUHB Community Dietetics team.

Qualifications: BSc Nutrition and Dietetics, HCPC registration.

Knowledge: Relevant knowledge of Mental health / Community dietetics, sound knowledge of research and its application in clinical settings, knowledge of prioritisation of patient risk within Healthcare settings.

Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience working with distressed patients / carers / family members, knowledge of prioritisation of patient risk within Healthcare settings.

Experience: Experience working in groups and 1 to 1 settings, experience of working with student dietitians.
