Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced midwife to join the maternity team as a Senior Midwifery Manager for Outpatient Services. The post holder will have professional, operational, and managerial responsibility for outpatient midwifery services, providing strategic leadership across all outpatient sites within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
The post holder will provide day-to-day operational, clinical and professional management of the Antenatal Clinic, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based and high-quality antenatal services for women, birthing people and their families. They will act as the designated lead for the clinical area, maintaining oversight of service delivery, workforce deployment, patient flow, clinic capacity and quality standards, ensuring services are responsive to local need and aligned with Health Board priorities and national maternity guidance.
The post holder will provide specialist midwifery advice, clinical expertise and professional leadership to midwives, maternity support workers and the wider multidisciplinary team, supporting the management of complex antenatal care pathways and promoting evidence-based practice. To maintain clinical credibility within the service and undertake clinical duties as required to support the safe and effective delivery of care to patients.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff within the Antenatal Clinic, including workforce planning, recruitment, induction, performance management, attendance management, staff wellbeing, education and professional development.
- They will create a positive learning environment that supports students, newly qualified midwives and experienced practitioners, fostering a culture of continuous learning, inclusion and compassionate leadership.
- The post holder will lead clinical governance, quality improvement and service development activities within the Antenatal Clinic, ensuring compliance with professional standards, statutory requirements, national policies and Health Board procedures.
- They will monitor service performance, patient experience, clinical outcomes and workforce metrics, using audit, feedback, incident reviews and quality improvement methodologies to drive measurable improvements in safety, quality and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Essential criteria: Registered Midwife, Masters Degree, Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Desirable criteria: Formal Management/leadership Qualification

- Essential criteria: Able to demonstrate clinical experience in all areas of midwifery practice, Successful management of change and evidence of service modernisation, Experience of working with multidisciplinary/multi-agency teams.
