The post holder will be required to work, on a rotational basis, at the radiology departments across Aneurin Bevan Health Board to meet the requirements of the service. To ensure the provision of effective, efficient and appropriate high quality patient care within the Interventional Radiology Department. Act as patient advocate throughout the Interventional Radiology process. To promote evidence based practice and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert. The post holder will work closely with the department sister/charge nurse and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holder, following training will be expected to be confident in assessing all patients for any invasive radiological procedure; being able to plan each patient's care, safely monitor throughout, sedate as required, recover and discharge the patient.
- Assist as required with a wide range of invasive procedures including; abdominal and aortic stenting, arterial intervention, endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) and percutaneous work.
- Many patients are acutely unwell requiring emergency procedures so the post holder must be confident in managing these patients while their condition is unstable in the isolated environment of Radiology with support from the Consultant Radiologist.
- The post holder will be required to report and document relevant information, using their initiative and communication skills to liaise with the Radiology team and other MDT. They must be confident and competent to react to any concerns or circumstances immediately.
- Following appropriate training the post holder will be expected to scrub alongside the Consultant Radiologist in the theatre environment for interventional radiological procedures. Being able to interpret the fluoroscopy images, assist the Consultants and communicate any concerns or issues during complex procedures.
