Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated Anaesthetic Practitioner/Operating Department Practitioner to join our expanding Anaesthetic Team at The Grange University Hospital.

The theatre department provides a 7 day 24 hour service, with the requirement to work weekends, nights and support all theatre departments within ABUHB.

Main duties of the job

The theatre department provides a 7 day 24 hour service, with the requirement to work occasional weekends, nights and support other theatre departments within ABUHB. The department will undertake both emergency and elective procedures, covering General Surgery, ENT, Vascular, Obstetrics, Max Fax, Gynaecology, CEPOD and Trauma.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications / Training

• Registered Nurse (RGN) NMC Registered with recognised anaesthetic qualification or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) HCPC Registered

Skills and Attributes

• Good written and IT skills
• Adopts a flexible approach to work and shift patterns
• Able to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised and evidence –based care
• Appreciation of audit and research methodologies
• Able to demonstrate a problem-solving approach
• Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

Other

• Satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance including an/a Adults and Children’s Barred List check (delete as appropriate) Ability to be independently mobile to rotate between various sites within ABUHB
• Ability to travel within a geographical area to meet the requirements of the post

Experience

• Anaesthetic experience as a qualified or student practitioner
• Current anaesthetic experience working in a theatre environment

Knowledge

• Knowledge of the role of the Anaesthetic and Theatre practitioner in a theatre environment
• Surgical safety procedures and guidelines NATSSIPS/LOCSSIPS

Personal Attributes

• Good organisational skills
• Excellent communication skills. This will include providing and receiving complex, sensitive or contentious information.
• Resilience and desire to continuously improve service provision.
