We are looking for dynamic and highly skilled Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists, experienced in all aspects of musculoskeletal management and forward‑thinking, with the skills to combine highly‑specialist clinical practice with innovation. You will be committed to following best practice and the promotion of high‑quality physiotherapy services. As a clinical leader you will have demonstrable leadership qualities and excellent communication and time‑management skills, with proven abilities to build networks across sites and disciplines.

Job Summary / Purpose

Working as an autonomous practitioner managing patients with highly specialised complex needs in a variety of care settings, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is facing changes in light of clinical futures and will conduct more integrated working between MSK Therapy teams, primary care, urgent care and minor injury units to support people with MSK conditions. This role will also involve being part of the Symptom Management Service, which provides support to people living with Long Covid, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome and other post‑viral illnesses.

Main Duties

  • Provide community outpatient physiotherapy service.
  • Participate in MSK community multi‑disciplinary triage of self‑referrals.
  • Act as first‑contact practitioner within urgent primary care hubs, GP practices and minor injuries units.
  • Work within the Symptom Management Service.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Requirement or willingness to undertake further masters‑level training up to PGC level.
  • Ability to travel and to work in a variety of sites based on need.
  • Prepared to work flexibly to meet service needs.
  • Available for weekend duties.

Desirable Criteria

  • Membership of appropriate special interest groups.
  • Clear vision of role and commitment to speciality.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Significant post‑graduate experience relevant to speciality.
  • Significant experience managing a complex caseload within relevant speciality.
  • Experience in multi‑agency team working within specialist area.
  • Evidence of supporting clinical governance requirements including codes of conduct.
  • Leadership of relevant networks/practice groups.
  • Experience in audit and service evaluation.
  • Experience in research.
  • Experience in staff development including education.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Experience in presenting to a range of audiences.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in leading a team.
  • Experience of service planning and development across professional boundaries.
  • Experience of post‑graduate teaching.
  • Independent prescribing.
  • Injection therapy qualified.
  • Experience of requesting diagnostics.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Diploma/ Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Advanced accredited training at masters level or equivalent.
  • Accredited post‑graduate specialist courses/training relevant to role.

Desirable Criteria

  • MSc within relevant speciality.
  • Post‑graduate qualification up to post‑grad diploma level in relevant area.
  • Non‑medical prescribing qualification.
  • IRMER trained.
  • Injection therapy qualification.
  • Competency as non‑medical referrer.
  • Qualified sonographer.
  • Relevant leadership courses/qualifications.
