An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a new Care After Death Service across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. This permanent band 3 position is well suited to an individual that is passionate about care after death and keen to work within a new team. The Care After Death Service supports the after death processes for patients. The post holder will provide an efficient, reliable, responsive and holistic service in care after death in ABUHB sites.
Main duties include:
- Ensuring that bereaved relatives and carers receive the necessary documentation, personal effects and relevant information in a suitable format, in a timely and compassionate way.
- Signposting relatives to appropriate services and gaining feedback from relatives regarding their experiences.
- Undertaking tasks within the mortuary and supporting bereaved families when visiting within the mortuary.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications:
- Essential criteria: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent demonstrable competencies and skills in Administration and afterlife patient care, computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, etc., and demonstrable experience of communicating effectively and compassionately with distressed/bereaved relatives and carers.
- Desirable criteria: Communication skills training, knowledge of bereavement support services, and demonstrable evidence of an understanding of the administrative process following the death of a hospital patient.
Experience:
- Essential criteria: Experience of inputting data into a database for service use and experience of working in a pressured environment with competing demands.
- Desirable criteria: Experience within a mortuary environment and experience of bereavement support.
Attitude and Abilities:
- Essential criteria: Willingness to work within the mortuary setting, demonstrable confidence to interact with health professional staff, able to deal with emotive/difficult/challenging situations with tact and sensitivity, and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Desirable criteria: Ability to speak Welsh at level 1 or the willingness to learn.

- Essential criteria: Excellent well developed communication skills, written and verbal, to pass on highly complex and sensitive information with specific emphasis on sensitivity and empathy, and a passion for making a difference.
