This post is secondment for 2 years due to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, complex Cloud First data engineering functions within the Health Board. The postholder will work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions, developing innovative BI products, data assets, and automated reporting solutions. The role involves designing and delivering clear, insightful, and visually effective outputs that support organisational decision-making and improve understanding of operational performance and patient outcomes. Working across both on-premises and cloud environments, the postholder will utilise a range of tools and technologies including T-SQL, Python, Airflow and Google Cloud Platform. The postholder will also contribute to data engineering activities, support the development of junior staff, and ensure that all outputs meet agreed standards, governance requirements, and best practices. Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job:

  • Interpret and translate routine and complex information requirements into effective Business Intelligence solutions, advising stakeholders on appropriate approaches.
  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality BI products, dashboards, and automated reports using a range of tools and technologies.
  • Develop production-ready data assets and contribute to data engineering pipelines across on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Analyse, extract and interpret complex datasets to provide meaningful insights, supporting organisational performance and decision-making.

Experience and qualifications:

Experience – Essential criteria:

  • Skilled in the design, coding, testing, and documenting programs or scripts under the direction of others.
  • Experience in a broad range of data engineering exercises including data models such as Kimball's Dimensional Data Modelling.
  • Experience in analysing and appropriately presenting complex data to staff at all levels of the organisation.
