The Senior Physiotherapy Technician will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy services at Nevill Hall Hospital, primarily within the Musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatient service. The post holder will work under the supervision of registered physiotherapists to deliver delegated rehabilitation programmes, exercise classes and contribute to the effective running of the service. The role includes assisting with assessment and treatment delivery, facilitating exercise programmes (including group and individual sessions), and supporting self‑management approaches to promote patient independence and recovery. The post holder will use sound clinical judgement within agreed competencies and will raise concerns appropriately. In addition to the primary MSK focus, the post holder will provide flexible cross‑cover to inpatient wards and outpatient neurological rehabilitation services as service demands dictate. This will involve supporting rehabilitation of patients with a range of conditions, contributing to safe discharge planning and continuity of care. The Senior Physiotherapy Technician will also support service development, supervise junior support staff where appropriate, and contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care, safety and experience. Strong communication, organisational skills and the ability to work across teams are essential to meet the dynamic needs of the service.
Main Duties: The post is predominantly clinical with an element of non‑clinical duties, including supporting clinicians with admin duties, housekeeping and monitoring and ordering of equipment and supplies. Good time management and prioritisation skills are crucial, as is the ability to work calmly and thoroughly under pressure. Excellent communication skills are required, as the post involves direct patient contact, communication with referrers and wider Physiotherapy and Administration teams. Documentation of patient notes to an appropriate standard and the ability to adapt programmes independently is vital. The post holder will be expected to work toward completion of the Agored Level 3 Diploma in Physiotherapy Support. The post holder must demonstrate flexibility and be willing to cross‑cover sites across ABUHB as service needs dictate. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Essential Criteria: The physical ability to perform and cope with all aspects of manual handling demanded by the role. Commitment to participating in and completing the ABUHB Physiotherapy Support Worker Training and Education Framework. Commitment to life‑long learning and portfolio keeping. The ability to move between sites within the Health Board or patients’ residences as demanded by the role. Professional appearance. Good communication skills, verbal and written, when interacting with team members, other professionals, clients and families. Working knowledge of specialised equipment appropriate to the working area. Good organisational skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Evidence of initiative and good time management. Ability to work unsupervised and demonstrate independent case management and treatment progression for a delegated workload. Previous experience in a health and/or social care environment or hold an appropriate qualification. Specific experience as a physiotherapy technician or other relevant support worker role. Experience of reflective practice in patient care. Experience of audit. Good command of English language and basic maths. NVQ 3 or other equivalent. Completion of relevant advanced levels of Agored.
Desirable Criteria: IT literacy. Ability to organise and lead in‑service training sessions. Welsh speaker. Experience of working with groups of patients. GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English. First Aid Certificate. Appropriate additional courses.
Benefits and Working Arrangements: A secure working environment with flexible working options. Benefits package and extensive training and development opportunities with paid mandatory training, excellent in‑house programmes, opportunities to complete recognised qualifications and professional career pathways, including management development programmes.
