Job Overview: Independently undertake direct clinical tasks delegated from registered staff across the multiple imaging disciplines, to facilitate efficient radiology services. Work alongside registered staff to assist with examinations such as fine needle aspirations, biopsies and fluoroscopy examinations. Undertake a variety of administration and clerical duties required within the role, such as booking and scheduling examinations, under the direction of registered staff. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job:

  • Greet patients, performing initial ID checks
  • Collect and escort patients to/from examination rooms
  • Chaperone for patients undergoing intimate examinations, ensuring dignity and confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Work alongside and under direction of senior registered staff, assist with aseptic techniques and examinations such as fine needle aspirations
  • Prepare equipment for a complex trolley setting, assisting staff with setting the aseptic area
  • Recognise the signs of a deteriorating patient and contrast media reaction
  • Attend to patients' hygiene needs and assist with dressing/undressing and toileting requirements
  • Work alone in a specified setting relevant to role and experience, under indirect supervision
  • Commit to the provision of out of hours, shifts, and cross‑site working as required to ensure service provision
  • Use a variety of software programmes
  • Support the induction and training of newly employed staff through the demonstration of own duties and role

Qualifications:

Essential criteria:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.
  • Good standard of general education including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Understanding of learning disabilities and the health inequalities experienced by this population.
  • Knowledge of person‑centred care and the importance of reasonable adjustments safeguarding, and professional boundaries.
Desirable criteria:
  • Additional qualifications related to healthcare

Experience:

Essential criteria:
  • Experience of working with patients or other vulnerable groups.
  • Experience providing care or support in a healthcare, social care, or community setting.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria:
  • Experience supporting individuals in acute or hospital environments.
  • Experience delivering or supporting training or health education sessions.
  • Experience collecting and inputting data.

Skills:

Essential criteria:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt communication to individual needs.
  • Ability to work independently within defined boundaries.
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Competent in using basic IT systems (e.g., email, data entry, Microsoft Excel/Word).
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and non‑judgemental.
  • Committed to promoting inclusion, equality.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to changing demands.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in further training and development.
Desirable criteria:
  • Skills in preparing patients for examinations or supporting patients receiving distressing information.

The role is currently under review within the Health Board and will result in the issuing of a revised Band 3 job description. If appointed, your manager will ensure you are kept informed and support you through any changes, including discussing relevant training requirements.
