Job Summary: Be part of an innovative and collaborative team driving the future of sustainable marine technology. As a Marine Electrical and Control Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and integration of advanced control systems for our pioneering Rotor Sail technology—a clean propulsion solution helping to decarbonise global shipping. You’ll work in an open, friendly environment where knowledge is shared, creativity is encouraged, and every team member plays a vital role. Collaborating with automation, mechanical, and project engineers, you’ll help deliver safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems that support the next generation of low-emission vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and review electrical and control systems for Rotor Sails including power distribution, electro-mechanical control, automation, and instrumentation.
  • Specify and integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and associated Interfaces for our Rotor Sail products.
  • Develop instrumentation, measurement and data acquisition systems including ship to shore communications.
  • Prepare technical documentation including wiring diagrams, bills of materials, cable schedules, load calculations, commissioning and testing procedures, operational and maintenance manuals.
  • Develop and enhance functionality of our Control system to improve performance of the Rotor Sails and integrate the equipment onto new vessel types.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant marine classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register) and IEC standards and assist with obtaining product approvals from those classification societies.
  • Support procurement and production by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Support the installation of our Rotor Sails onto vessels including integration design with the vessel electrical and control systems.
  • Provide remote or on-site technical support during commissioning, testing, sea trials and operational handover.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or other relevant qualifications in Electrical/Control Engineering.
  • Proven experience in marine electrical systems development, design, integration and commissioning.
  • Proven PLC Coding experience (ideally Siemens TIA Portal).
  • Familiarity with shipboard power management systems, switchboards, diesel generators and shaft generators.
  • Good working knowledge of PLC Systems and VFDs and associated hardware.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python and C#.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Knowledge of marine regulations and standards including Class rule requirements for design approval and plan approval.
  • Willingness to travel for shipboard inspections, commissioning, and trials.
  • Experience communicating with ship staff to troubleshoot systems.
  • Experience working with shipyards on refit and new builds.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Hazardous Area Equipment and Installations: CompEx certification (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
