At Anemoi, we’re transforming the maritime industry with cutting‑edge Rotor Sail technology that brings modern engineering and sustainability together. From our headquarters in the UK and our production base in China, we design, build and deliver advanced automated wind‑assisted propulsion systems that help shipowners and operators reduce fuel consumption and emissions — propelling the shipping industry towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Our ambition is bold but clear: to save 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ every day by installing 500 Rotor Sails by 2030. Imagine fleets of vessels crossing the world’s oceans using our Rotor Sail systems, harnessing renewable wind power to operate more efficiently and responsibly. We’re making that a reality, one installation at a time.
The Role
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for supporting the installation, commissioning and ongoing operation of Anemoi Rotor Sail systems worldwide.
Based in Jingjiang, you will provide technical support for Rotor Sail installations throughout their lifecycle, from commissioning new systems through to diagnosing and resolving issues on vessels already in service.
Working closely with Anemoi’s Electrical, Software, and Production teams in China, alongside the UK Engineering team responsible for electrical system design and onboard control software, you will troubleshoot complex electrical, automation, and software issues—both remotely and onboard vessels.
This role will require extensive domestic and international travel to shipyards, ports and vessels worldwide. You will be expected to travel at short notice to support installations, commissioning activities and operational vessels experiencing technical issues. This may include attending vessels in dock, at anchorage or, where operationally required, joining vessels during a voyage.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for Rotor Sail installations throughout installation, commissioning and operational service.
- Travel globally to shipyards, ports and vessels to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Attend vessels at dock, anchorage or during voyages where technical support is required.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, PLC, software and control system faults.
- Provide remote technical support where appropriate, while recognising that many issues will require onboard investigation and resolution.
- Work closely with the Electrical, Software and Production teams in China, together with the UK Engineering team, to investigate issues and develop permanent technical solutions.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC logic and engineering documentation to diagnose faults and implement repairs.
- Support software deployment, system configuration and control system upgrades during installation and throughout the operational life of the equipment.
- Troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motors, sensors, instrumentation, electrical panels and communication networks.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Harbour Acceptance Testing (HAT), Sea Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning and post‑installation verification activities.
- Capture technical findings and provide clear feedback to Engineering to support continuous product improvement and increased fleet reliability.
- Liaise with vessel crews, shipyards, subcontractors, classification societies and customers to ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
- Maintain high standards of safety and quality while working onboard vessels and in shipyard environments.
A Willingness to Travel extensively will be essential for the role
- Experience working onboard commercial vessels, offshore assets or within the marine industry, or a willingness to develop in this environment.
- Proven experience commissioning, maintaining or troubleshooting electrical and automation systems onboard commercial vessels.
