Technical Skills
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Fitting, Engineering Maintenance, or equivalent.
- Significant experience (typically 3–5+ years) in mechanical installation or plant fitting within heavy engineering, industrial, or civil sectors.
- Strong competence in metalworks: welding (MIG/TIG/flux), grinding, cutting, bolting, and precision assembly.
- Comfortable operating lifting gear and interpreting structural and mechanical drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving instincts and ability to spot and fix installation glitches on the fly.
- Meticulous attention to detail; quality and safety are everything.
- Clean right to work in the UK; can travel to project sites across England, Scotland, and possibly Wales.
- Unlimited Overtime. Saturdays is Pay and a Half, Sundays is Double Pay.
Job Responsibilities
- Methodically install, align, and assemble heavy-duty equipment—ranging from bitumen/asphalt storage systems to concrete batching plants, process heating units, and fabricated steel components.
- Accurately interpret engineering drawings, erection plans, and technical schematics.
- Operate plant tools and lifting gear (e.g. hoists, cranes, grinders, welders) safely and efficiently.
- Perform precision welding, cutting, grinding, bolting, and fitting of metal assemblies on-site.
- Commission, test, and troubleshoot mechanical systems, ensuring alignment, functionality, and safety.
- Oversee rigging, lifting, and positioning of large modules and components, coordinating with other trades as needed.
- Maintain accurate site documentation—e.g. installation logs, equipment checklists, and H&S compliance records.
- Identify, report, and resolve potential installation and wearing issues early—supporting a proactive safety and quality culture.
- Work flexible hours; be prepared for on-site travel across projects in different industries (e.g., infrastructure, highways, environmental solutions).
