Electrical Maintenance Engineer – Heavy Industrial Manufacturing

Are you an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer looking for a permanent position working with large-scale industrial machinery and complex electrical systems?

We're recruiting an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join the shift maintenance team at a major cement manufacturing facility in Dunbar, East Lothian.

This is a hands-on engineering position within a 24/7 continuous-process environment, where you'll be responsible for electrical breakdowns, fault-finding, preventative maintenance and keeping critical production equipment operating safely and efficiently.

You'll work across a substantial industrial site incorporating quarrying, kilns, mills, conveyors, packing equipment and utilities, with exposure to a wide range of electrical, mechanical and automated systems.

If you enjoy solving electrical problems, working on heavy industrial machinery and being part of a team that keeps production moving, this could be an excellent opportunity.

The Role

As an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, you'll work a 4-on / 4-off shift pattern, providing electrical maintenance and breakdown support across the site.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to electrical breakdowns and restoring production equipment to service.
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults across industrial electrical and process-control systems.
  • Maintaining LV and HV motors, switchgear and motor control centres.
  • Fault-finding on variable speed drives, inverters and industrial control panels.
  • Working with PLC, DCS and SCADA-controlled production machinery.
  • Maintaining instrumentation, sensors and associated control equipment.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and electrical inspections.
  • Supporting maintenance across kilns, mills, conveyors and material-handling equipment.
  • Assisting with plant shutdowns, repairs and major maintenance activities.
  • Working closely with production teams to identify and resolve recurring equipment faults.
  • Following electrical isolation procedures, permit-to-work systems and site safety requirements.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and plant reliability initiatives.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with Electrical Maintenance Engineers, Industrial Electricians, Electrical Technicians and EC&I Technicians who have experience maintaining machinery within industrial or manufacturing environments.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A recognised electrical qualification or completed electrical engineering apprenticeship.
  • Experience in industrial electrical maintenance and breakdown response.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with motors, drives, switchgear, MCCs and control panels.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and industrial automation.
  • An understanding of electrical isolation and safe systems of work.
  • Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Confidence working independently during shift operations.
  • A practical, safety-conscious approach to maintenance.
  • Willingness to work a 4-on / 4-off day and night shift pattern.

Experience within aggregates, quarrying, power generation, steel, chemicals, paper, food manufacturing or other continuous-process industries would be particularly relevant.

Previous cement industry experience is advantageous but not essential.

Equipment & Technical Exposure

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will work with a broad range of heavy industrial equipment, including:

  • Industrial motors and motor-control systems
  • LV and HV electrical equipment
  • Motor control centres and switchgear
  • Variable speed drives and inverters
  • PLC-controlled production machinery
  • DCS and SCADA systems
  • Industrial instrumentation and process controls
  • AC and DC electrical systems
  • Electrical distribution and control panels
  • Industrial communication networks
  • Conveyors, kilns, mills and associated processing equipment

You don't need to be a specialist PLC programmer. We're looking for someone with strong industrial electrical maintenance experience who can systematically diagnose faults, repair equipment and support the reliable operation of a busy manufacturing site.

Salary & Benefits

This Electrical Maintenance Engineer position offers a competitive salary alongside a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Performance-related bonus scheme
  • Enhanced holiday entitlement
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Employee rewards and discount platform
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Employee wellbeing support
  • Ongoing technical training and development
  • Long-term career progression opportunities
  • Permanent employment with an established industrial manufacturing business

Location & Working Pattern

The position is based in Dunbar, East Lothian, and operates on a 4-on / 4-off shift pattern covering days and nights.

The site may be suitable for candidates travelling from Haddington, North Berwick, Tranent, Musselburgh, Edinburgh, Berwick-upon-Tweed and surrounding areas.
