The Mechanical Engineering Intern will play a key role in supporting the Engineering R&D team across multiple active development projects. Working under the guidance of the Mechanical Staff Engineer—and in collaboration with both mechanical and electrical engineering teams—you will contribute to the introduction, validation, and optimization of new engineering tools, processes, and prototype designs. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced CAD and simulation tools, prototype fabrication, and cross-functional engineering workflows within a fast-paced product development environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) & Thermal Analysis: Lead the introduction, setup, and application of CFD software for evaluating telecommunication cabinets and enclosures. Perform thermal simulations and support interpretation of airflow, heat transfer, and component cooling performance. Conduct physical prototype testing and compare empirical results against CFD predictions to validate simulation accuracy. Document findings, methodologies, and recommendations for future design improvements.
- Electrical System Design & SolidWorks Electrical: Collaborate closely with the Electrical Engineering team to establish best practices for SolidWorks Electrical. Design electrical cables, harnesses, and routing solutions within the broader mechanical assembly. Assist in developing structured Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new electrical harness designs. Coordinate procurement of prototype components and support assembly/testing activities.
- General Engineering Support: Contribute to ongoing mechanical and electrical product development initiatives. Prepare engineering documentation, reports, test plans, and presentations as required. Engage in project meetings and offer analytical input to support design decisions.
