Job Overview

Production Manager – Canterbury – Permanent – £55,000-£60,000 plus benefits.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification, ideally Mechanical background or work‑based experience.
  • Knowledge of MRP scheduling systems.
  • Forward‑thinking perspective.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proven successful leader.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementation of roadmap and daily and weekly metrics aligned with customer demand, supporting operational strategy with the site manager.
  • Manage staff attendance and holiday entitlement.
  • Participate in daily production meetings to stay updated with business needs.
  • Raise any issues regarding online performance and material availability that hinder customer delivery.
  • Create and implement best practice in manufacturing, policies, processes and procedures to improve operational performance including quality.
  • Manage regular stock checks to ensure accuracy of both WIP and MRP requirements, highlighting discrepancies on the system.
  • Ensure site operation is compliant with COSHH, Engineering & legislative standards, ISO9001 and ISO14001.
  • Drive behavioural‑based safety throughout the plant and ensure medical treatment and target rates are adhered to.
  • Take a lead role in incident investigations, follow up on actions and conduct root‑cause (five whys) analysis.
  • Conduct regular safety checks including guarding, interlocks, traffic ways and adherence to government guidelines and social distancing.
  • Team management, including coaching, motivation, appraisals, reviews, KPIs, one‑to‑one meetings, disciplinary matters and grievances as required.
  • Management of budgets, including overtime, headcount, department costs aligned to customer demand requirements and flexibility of costs.
  • Drive preventive maintenance programmes, including servicing and repairs of all machinery and equipment.
