Overview

The Chief Credit Officer is responsible for the overall management of the Bank’s Credit Administration Department, including the underwriting and loan review analysis process, and all functions providing lending support, direction, credit information, and loan policies, procedures and processes to ensure the overall quality of the Bank’s lending portfolio.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Provides accurate, efficient and exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows bank regulations, security, confidential and audit/compliance responsibilities, products, policies, procedures and meets deadlines.
  • Ensures loans and agreements comply with state and federal laws, regulations and Bank lending policies and procedures
  • Ensures accurate and timely servicing of the Bank’s loan portfolio.
  • Oversees the production of loan documentation relating to the opening, servicing and closing of all loans
  • Reviews and approves/declines large and complex loans prior to submission to Loan Committee
  • Supervises the Bank’s special assets area in curing weak credits, collection of such credits, or the movement of such undesirable credits; assists in the compilation of loan status reports and implementing respective loan action plans; prepares a report on the status of the Bank’s special assets for submittal to the Board of Directors for review.
  • Develop and maintain the bank’s CRA program and act as Board approved CRA Officer
  • Maintains Allowance for Loan and Lease Loss Reserve (ALLL) and makes recommendations to executive management and the Board of Directors for the amount to be added/deducted to/from the loan reserve; reserve maintenance includes analyzing local, regional, and national economic conditions; loan losses and trends; and loan product concentrations
  • Effectively utilizes technological systems to properly manage the credit administration functions and resolve problems within given authority
  • Performs personnel actions including performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates for employment; supervises the daily activities of the department including, but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, developing work schedules and providing necessary training.
  • Attempts to ensure that individual loans are risk rated correctly when reviewing loans for loan committee submission
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors and competition
  • Demonstrates consistency and fairness to all applicants
  • Consistently apply and document override authority by establishing policy rules and severity levels to loan policy
  • Compiles with Andover Bank’s lending policy and procedure
  • Contribute and lead portfolio management to develop and grow a high-quality level portfolio
  • Satisfactorily completes all training required for the position
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position of Chief Credit Officer is responsible for the supervision of three or more employees, and normally carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Bank\’s policies and applicable laws, ensuring adherence to EEO guidelines. Trains, mentors, disciplines and prepares employee performance reviews.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; preferred or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, internal and external customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Must exercise independent judgement and discretion. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to work effectively with the credit team. Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills. Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills; must have a demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. Must be able to learn other related software programs.
