Anderson Strathern is one of Scotland’s leading full service law firms. We are a progressive law firm with a strong brand focused on taking our clients where they want to be. We have offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, East Lothian, Orkney and Shetland. We pride ourselves in providing a seamless, high-quality service delivering commercial and practical advice to help our clients achieve their personal and professional goals.
Due to the expansion of our commercial client base, we have opportunities for Employment Lawyers within our Employment, Immigration & Pensions team. The roles will be based in Scotland and we will also be flexible in terms of hybrid and remote working.
We act for a range of employers including UK and Scottish Government Departments and Agencies and large multinational businesses through to small businesses managing their own employees. Much of the role will involve supporting our commercial clients with training and litigation in the Employment Tribunal, and general employment law and HR guidance to a range of employers. However, the role will also involve acting for employees, both in the Employment Tribunal and in relation to settlement agreements. The fact we have both a commercial client base and also advise and represent employees means we are able to see any employment situation from both sides, which gives us the broader perspective our clients need. As Investors in People and Investors in Young People Gold award holders, we will provide you with full supervision and support. We aim to be the legal employer of choice and the successful candidate will enjoy a friendly working environment with the right combination of flexibility, autonomy and support.
The role will involve:
- Providing advice and guidance to clients concerning day to day employment law matters.
- Preparing ET1 and ET3 submissions and other associated correspondence with the Employment Tribunal in relation to litigation.
- Taking and drafting witness statements.
- Conducting legal research.
- Advocacy at Employment Tribunals and Employment Appeal Tribunals.
- Drafting non-contentious documentation such as contracts of employment, handbooks, policies, and procedures.
- Developing expertise in the resolution of employment disputes including the use of mediation.
- Assisting other departments in relation to non-contentious matters such as TUPE warranties and indemnities on the sale or transfer of a business.
- Assisting with the delivery of presentations and training workshops to clients and non-clients.
- Participating in the business development initiatives of the wider team and the Firm.
Evidence of appetite and/or experience in business development activities will be an advantage. The successful candidate should be able to manage a varied workload, be able to work alone and/or as part of a team and have the ability to deliver a first-class service to our clients.
We have the need for full-time roles but will consider part-time and flexible working arrangements. We anticipate the successful candidates having 0 – 5 years PQE (but we will consider more experienced candidates).
Anderson Strathern are an equal opportunities employer. Our policy is to recruit, develop, nurture and retain a diverse workforce following the guidelines of the Equality Act 2010.
