Join one of Scotland's leading full-service law firms and take your career to the next level. We have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor or an Associate within our Employment, Immigration and Pension (EIP) team, based in our Edinburgh office.
We are one of the largest and most experienced teams in Scotland. We act for a range of employers including UK and Scottish Government Departments and Agencies, Scottish Prison Service and large multinational commercial businesses through to small businesses managing their own employees. The role will give you access to high profile significant litigation work from the outset with support from our large team, defending claims being pursued against our Government clients and the Scottish Prison Service in the Employment Tribunal. You will also have good opportunities to act for a range of other clients and provide general employment law and HR guidance to a range of employers. The role will also involve acting for employees, both in the Employment Tribunal and in relation to settlement agreements.
As Investors in People and Investors in Young People Gold award holders, we will provide you with full supervision and support with five lawyers accredited as specialists in employment law with the Law Society of Scotland. Alongside a firm-wide Advocacy Academy in collaboration with sheriffs and advocates, we have our own EIP Advocacy Academy focused on the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.
The role will involve:
- Providing advice and guidance to clients concerning day to day employment law matters.
- Preparing ET1 and ET3 submissions and other associated correspondence with the Employment Tribunal in relation to litigation.
- Taking and drafting witness statements.
- Conducting legal research.
- Advocacy at Employment Tribunals and Employment Appeal Tribunals.
- Drafting non-contentious documentation such as contracts of employment, handbooks, policies and procedures.
- Developing expertise in the resolution of employment disputes including the use of mediation.
- Assisting other departments in relation to non-contentious matters such as TUPE warranties and indemnities on the sale or transfer of a business.
- Assisting with the delivery of presentations and training workshops to clients and non-clients.
- Participating in the business development initiatives of the wider team and the firm.
About you:
- 3 years + PQE with experience in Employment Tribunals
- Strong client focus and commercial awareness
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A proactive approach to business development
- The successful candidate should be able to manage a varied workload, be able to work alone and/or as part of a team and have a keen interest in the contentious side of employment law as you will gain unrivalled experience in Employment Tribunal litigation and advocacy.
