Senior Electrical Building Services Design Engineer - Bristol Office

Anderson Parslow are looking for enthusiastic engineers to join their growing engineering team to work on a variety of projects.

Anderson Parslow is an independent M&E building services consultancy based in Bristol and Cardiff covering the whole of the UK, designing and co-ordinating projects from conception to completion.

About the job.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join our Building Services Engineering design team reporting to the Director in our Bristol office, to lead and undertake the engineering designs for a variety of projects across the UK, including Commercial, Leisure, Residential, Retail, Healthcare, Education, Industrial and Infrastructure projects.

The Role.

  • Undertaking electrical building services design elements for a whole range of projects of various sizes.
  • Manage client relationships and business development.
  • Lead liaison with clients, other consultants and contractors.

Work closely with other disciplines and design engineers, attending meetings and communicating with clients and contractors to help define the design requirements.

  • Provide technical leadership on projects. Oversee engineering challenges and provide informed solutions.
  • Manage the production of the Electrical design element for complete projects, lead technical calculations and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Be an effective communicator, responding professionally to Document Review Notices.
  • Be an active participant with other design/construction disciplines and sub-contractors at meetings.
  • Manage the project’s engineering design team to ensure production of design deliverables to the programme and budget.

Undertake cost management of projects and internal project teams.

  • Lead feasibility Studies. Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives.
  • Managing the production of drawings. Preparing and co-ordinating electrical drawings, documents and specifications.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate the work of others and co-ordinate work with engineers of other disciplines.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the complete design process, be familiar with the RIBA work stages.
  • Lead the development of engineering standards and best practices.
  • Approving designs to ensure contractual requirements have been satisfied to a level that complies British, European and ISO Standards.
  • Be capable of checking designs, managing CDM risk analyses.
  • Preparing high level reports, feasibility studies, and undertake site surveys.
  • Undertake design cost estimates and prepare new bid preparations.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of junior staff, providing support and technical guidance to progress their capabilities and professional development.
  • Supporting the growth of the business, in particular the provision of electrical engineering design services and willingness to develop your own engineering potential.

Skills and Knowledge requirements.

  • HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar engineering discipline. (Ideally for your qualification to satisfy the education criteria for CEng or IEng).
  • Be a Member of a Professional Institution such as the IET or CIBSE, be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or working towards professional registration.

Up to date knowledge and experience in some of the following areas.

  • Electrical Supply and Distribution Systems
  • Internal and External Lighting Design
  • Familiar with the 18th Edition of IET Wiring Regulations
  • Electrical Load Assessments
  • Standby Generation and UPS
  • Earthing and Bonding

The following qualities would be an advantage.

  • Experience in the field of electrical design and experience on Construction, Buildings and Infrastructure projects.
  • Able to design and deliver a wide range of bespoke electrical engineering solutions.
  • Experience of working in a team on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Demonstration of a good understanding of engineering software packages used to design and model electrical systems (i. e.

Auto CAD, Micro Station, Navis Works, Revit, Hevacomp, Amtech, Electrical OM, Dialux, Relux and other calculation packages)

Hours of Work: Flexible working hours.

Core business hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 4.00pm.

Location: Flexible/Hybrid working from our Bristol Office, or occasionally from our office located in Cardiff.

We want to hear from you if

  • You have a Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services or equivalent
  • You are a Member of a Professional Institution (i. e. IET, CIBSE)
  • You are, or are working towards, professional registration as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer
  • You have a good understanding of project management processes and structures.
  • You are self-motivated and pro-active in terms of delivering projects and administering design staff, and demonstrate organisational and leadership skills, and undertake site surveys
  • You can demonstrate commercial awareness and experience in electrical systems design (e. g. lighting and building services, security, LV distribution, cable selection and protection discrimination studies, etc.)
  • You can identify innovative solutions to problems, considering new emerging technologies, with an interest in the application and promotion of energy reduction techniques and sustainable, low carbon solutions.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Proficient in using engineering software packages to design electrical systems.
  • Highly proficient in the use of the English language (both written and spoken)
  • Knowledge British, European and ISO Electrical Standards
  • Be familiar with the RIBA and BSRIA work stages
  • Understand CDM and CSM processes
  • Ability to assess CDM risks and manage hazards
