Anderson Knight is delighted to be working on a retained basis with a leading Building Envelope Contractor headquartered in Glasgow and operating across the UK. Specialising in roofing, cladding, and façade solutions, our client delivers major and bespoke projects within highly regulated sectors, including Nuclear, Defence, Aviation, Energy, and Pharmaceuticals. Renowned for their expertise in delivering complex, high-value schemes, they have established themselves as a key player within the building envelope industry.
With an exceptional team and a first-class working environment, the business is committed to providing a professional, innovative, and client-focused service. Their collaborative approach ensures projects are successfully delivered from tender stage, through specialist design and procurement, to final completion on site. The company continues to experience significant growth and is forecasting a turnover of £30 million in the current financial year. Project values range from £10,000 to £45 million, reflecting the diverse and impressive portfolio they deliver across the UK.
Due to continued expansion, they are now seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their team based in Glasgow, with occasional travel to project sites as required.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance / Commercial Lead, the Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the commercial management of projects, ensuring financial performance is maximised throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing projects allocated by the Commercial Lead
- Attending project handover meetings with the Estimating Team
- Reviewing and ensuring compliance with contract conditions
- Working closely with the Project Delivery Team to maintain effective communication throughout the project
- Preparing project budgets based on tender submissions
- Liaising with Procurement, Contracts Teams, and Subcontractors
- Monitoring and controlling project budgets in line with contractual requirements
- Preparing and submitting monthly valuations to support positive cash flow and timely payments
- Managing change control procedures, ensuring all variations and additional works are identified, valued, and recovered
- Producing CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and financial forecasts for senior management
- Monitoring payments across the supply chain
- Preparing detailed cost reports for review with Project Teams and presentation to the Senior Management Team
- Approving invoices in line with agreed budgets and authorisation processes
- Preparing, negotiating, and agreeing final accounts
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- Proven ability to commercially manage projects from tender stage through to final account
- RICS accreditation and/or a relevant degree (preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with the COINS system would be advantageous
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving
- The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative project delivery team
