My client is looking for a Senior Sustainability / Energy Consultant to lead the delivery of sustainability, energy and building performance projects from inception through to completion. This senior role requires strong project and people management skills, technical expertise in energy modelling and thermal analysis, and the ability to coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary design teams. The role will operate in a hybrid working environment with a balance of office and remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage sustainability and energy projects.
- Oversee and mentor junior consultants and interns, providing technical guidance and support.
- Develop, review and deliver robust energy strategies that align with planning policy, building regulations, and client objectives.
- Prepare technical reports, strategy documents and compliance submissions for planning and regulatory approvals.
- Conduct or manage energy performance assessments, including SAP/SBEM, thermal bridging, overheating analysis, dynamic simulation (e.g., IES VE), and Part L compliance models.
- Engage regularly with clients, architects, planners and other stakeholders to present findings, articulate recommendations, and maintain strong client relationships.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK building regulations, sustainability frameworks and best practice in low‑carbon design.
- Contribute to business development activities, including proposals and technical presentations where needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Professional experience (typically 5+ years) in sustainability, energy consultancy, building physics or similar technical field.
- Proven ability to manage people and multidisciplinary projects with competing priorities.
- Demonstrable experience preparing high‑quality written reports and technical documentation.
- Competence in building performance modelling tools and methodologies, including but not limited to IES VE, SAP/SBEM processes, thermal bridging analysis, overheating analysis and dynamic energy modelling.
- Strong client‑facing skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational capability and attention to detail.
- A relevant degree in Engineering, Building Services, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or similar technical discipline.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with client management and fee proposals.
- Familiarity with planning policy, environmental modelling techniques, and sustainability certification frameworks.
