The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and client‑focused Structural Engineer to join our Birmingham office and play a leading role in the design and management of some of our most exciting and prestigious projects. Our local portfolio includes major urban redevelopments and landmark commercial schemes, alongside projects across the UK and internationally in sectors such as education, data centres, healthcare, and residential. In this senior position you’ll lead a team of talented engineers and technicians, collaborating across multiple disciplines to deliver technically excellent, profitable projects. You’ll have the opportunity to strengthen existing client relationships, build new partnerships, and mentor junior engineers to support their professional growth.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage engineering designs in line with client briefs and project requirements.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on designs prepared by junior team members.
- Monitor project resourcing needs and provide feedback to senior management.
- Contribute to the day‑to‑day management and control of projects under the guidance of senior managers, including commercial and financial oversight, project planning, and compliance with QA, environmental, and health & safety procedures.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff, supporting their professional development and progression toward chartered status.
- Attend internal and external marketing or business development events as appropriate.
- Assist in preparing proposals, submissions, and fee bids.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure long‑term collaboration and satisfaction.
- Contribute to practice‑wide technical initiatives, including the development of design standards, software improvements, and knowledge‑sharing programmes.
About You
- Chartered (or working towards Chartership), preferably with the IStructE.
- Degree qualified (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Structural or Civil Engineering.
- Extensive experience in structural engineering within a consultancy environment.
- Strong technical proficiency with structural design and analysis software.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large‑scale projects and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills with a client‑focused, collaborative approach.
- Passion for creative, sustainable, and efficient design solutions.
