We are working exclusively with a globally recognised data centre specialist to find a Sales Engineering Lead who can own the technical pre-sales function, lead a team of sales engineers and act as the bridge between winning work and delivering it.
This is not a desk-bound engineering role and it is not a pure sales role. It sits right in the middle - technically authoritative, commercially sharp and client facing enough to walk into a room and win people over.
You will lead the sales engineering function end to end - from qualifying opportunities and developing M&E solution architectures, through to bid leadership, proposal delivery and technical handover to the delivery team. You will manage and mentor a team of Sales Engineers, set the standard and be the person the business looks to when a pursuit needs to be won.
Key Responsibilities:- Own technical qualification of opportunities - scope, site constraints, client requirements, compliance and programme
- Develop M&E solution architectures across LV distribution, UPS, generators, cooling systems, containment and cabling
- Lead bid engineering - take-offs, BOQs, labour build-ups, value engineering and win strategy
- Produce and review technical proposals, schematics, equipment schedules and risk assessments
- Present solutions confidently at client design reviews, bid interviews and executive level
- Manage supplier and subcontractor technical clarifications and negotiations
- Lead technical handover to delivery teams ensuring scope clarity and design intent are preserved
- Manage, mentor and develop the sales engineering team - setting KPIs, standards and development plans
- Champion best practice go/no-go processes, bid stage gates and quality reviews
- Degree or HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years in M&E engineering within data centres or critical infrastructure
- Proven pre-sales or sales engineering experience - scoping, solutioning, proposals and bid defence
- Strong knowledge of LV systems, UPS, generators, cooling technologies and containment
- Commercially astute - pricing strategies, margin protection, risk registers
- Excellent communicator - as comfortable with a client's procurement director as you are with a design engineer
- Familiarity with BS7671, CIBSE Guides and CDM regulations
- Consultancy or contractor background both considered
- Competitive basic salary + benefits
- A senior leadership position within a globally active, growing business
- Strong healthcare + pension benefits
- Brand new state of the art offices in the heart of the City of London
- The autonomy to shape and lead a function that is critical to the growth of the business
