Technical Manager – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS

We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Technical Manager to lead and oversee all engineering aspects of utility-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects. This is a pivotal role supporting projects from early development through design, construction, commissioning, and handover, ensuring technical excellence, safety, quality, and compliance throughout the lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all design and engineering activities from feasibility and FEED through to as-built documentation
  • Act as technical authority, coordinating EPC contractors, consultants, and suppliers
  • Ensure designs meet grid, regulatory, HSE, and Employer’s Requirements
  • Optimise designs for constructability, operability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost
  • Support project development, feasibility studies, yield assessments, and financial models
  • Provide technical input to M&A and due diligence activities
  • Support procurement, technical bid evaluations, and contractor selection
  • Manage technical risks, design changes, RFIs, and variations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, permits, and CDM regulations
  • Support construction, commissioning, and handover to O&M teams

Skills & Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience in power generation projects (renewables preferred)
  • Experience with an IPP, EPC contractor, or engineering consultancy
  • Strong understanding of solar PV, BESS, and power project delivery models
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary design teams and stakeholders
  • Proficient in CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and technical documentation review

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Power Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Working towards or holding IEng / CEng status desirable
  • Relevant H&S certifications (SMSTS, CSCS, NEBOSH) advantageous
  • Full driving licence required due to site visits
