Job Description
Andersen James is proud to be working exclusively with a fast-growing facilities management business to appoint their very first Head of QSHE – a pivotal leadership role created to drive the next phase of growth across their national property portfolio.
This is not a replacement hire. It’s a newly created position, reflecting both the scale of the business today (£1.2bn AUM) and the ambition to reach £2bn+ in the coming years. For the right person, it represents the chance to make a lasting impact at the very heart of a high-growth, entrepreneurial organisation.
Shape the vision: As the first in post, you’ll set the roadmap for QSHE across the business rather than inherit a legacy framework.
Be a key voice: You’ll sit alongside the senior leadership team, influencing board-level discussions and shaping operational excellence.
Lead and inspire: With responsibility for a team of c.30 staff and a budget of £6–8m (set to grow), you’ll build a culture of compliance, safety and accountability that supports commercial growth.
National impact: Oversee a diverse portfolio of shopping centres, business parks, offices, and public realm assets, with nationwide travel and visibility.
- Entrepreneurial culture: Work in an environment where professionalism, ownership, and imaginative solutions are rewarded.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Setting the QSHE vision, strategy and culture across the FM business.
- Leading compliance with all relevant UK legislation, codes of practice, and engineering/FM standards.
- Securing and maintaining ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001).
- Overseeing audits, risk management, and continuous improvement across the portfolio.
- Acting as the QSHE lead during pitches, client engagement, and board discussions.
- Using data and KPIs to drive safety performance and incident reduction.
- Providing expert guidance to projects, refurbishments, and major events.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years’ senior QSHE leadership experience in FM, engineering, or commercial property.
- Strong presence and credibility – able to influence and communicate at board level.
- NEBOSH Diploma (essential) and Chartered IOSH (CMIOSH preferred).
- Certified lead auditor (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001).
- Proven success in behavioural safety initiatives and managing accreditations.
- Values-led leadership style – professional, proactive, and commercially aware.
- Based ideally in Manchester (with options in London or Birmingham), plus regular UK travel.
Why Join?
This business is one of the UK’s most ambitious property and facilities management providers, with a reputation for professionalism, ownership, entrepreneurialism, meritocracy, and a bias for action. Decisions are made quickly, responsibility is never outsourced, and high performance is both recognised and rewarded.
With a clear growth trajectory and the resources to back it, this is the perfect time to join and leave your mark.
