I am working with a leading EPC who are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the high voltage electrical scope on utility-scale BESS projects delivered under EPC contracts across the UK. You will act as the EPCβs technical authority for HV systems, overseeing design management, procurement, supplier tendering, and ICP-led grid connections, while supporting construction, commissioning, and energisation. This role is central to ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on programme, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering
- Manage the HV electrical design from concept through detailed design for EPC-delivered BESS projects (typically 132Kv +).
- Review and approve primary and secondary designs.
- Manage design interfaces between OEMs, balance-of-plant contractors, ICPs, and civil works.
- Ensure compliance with UK standards and codes (ENA, IEC, BS, G99/G100, CDM).
- ICP & Grid Connections
- Act as EPC technical lead for ICP connections, coordinating with ICPs, DNOs, and National Grid.
- Manage technical inputs to grid applications, connection agreements, and adoption processes.
- Oversee technical compliance through design, construction, testing, and energisation.
- Procurement & Supplier Management
- Prepare technical specifications and scopes of work for HV equipment and services.
- Lead supplier tendering and technical bid evaluations, supporting commercial negotiations and contract awards.
- Manage suppliers during execution, including technical queries, design reviews, FATs, and delivery schedules.
- Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Resolve site-based design and interface issues in collaboration with construction managers and subcontractors.
- Support commissioning, protection testing, and energisation activities through to handover.
- Project & Team Support
- Support project managers with technical risk management, programme input, and cost control.
- Contribute to lessons learned and standardisation of EPC HV designs.
Required Experience & Skills
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong experience delivering HV electrical scope within EPC contracts for utility-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record on utility BESS projects.
- Hands-on experience working with ICPs, DNOs, and grid connection processes in the UK.
- Solid understanding of EPC delivery risks, interfaces, and commercial drivers.
- Ability to operate as a senior technical authority across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership is desirable.
