I am working with a leading EPC contractor operating at the forefront of the energy transition, seeking an experienced Electrical Project Lead. The organisation delivers major energy infrastructure projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), PV, behind-the-meter decarbonisation solutions, and hydrogen technologies. Their work supports public, commercial, and industrial clients in reducing energy consumption and achieving net-zero objectives. This role provides technical electrical leadership across business development, engineering, procurement, and project delivery. The Electrical Project Lead will hold overall accountability for all electrical elements of Carbon Reduction and Hydrogen EPC projects, from pre-construction through to delivery.

The Role:

Pre-Construction Responsibilities

  • Support business development activities by ensuring tender submissions meet all technical, regulatory, and client-specific electrical requirements.
  • Review and approve electrical design documentation in line with client expectations, statutory regulations, and the UK Grid Code.
  • Develop detailed testing and commissioning strategies, including acceptance criteria.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with electrical suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications and scopes of work for electrical packages.
  • Lead technical evaluations and bid assessments for supplier and subcontractor selection.
  • Provide expert input into EPC planning, including electrical sequencing, interfaces, and construction methodology.
  • Lead electrical estimating activities across BESS, Carbon Reduction, and Hydrogen EPC projects.

Construction & Commissioning Responsibilities

  • Support Project Directors during delivery by providing consistent and authoritative electrical technical leadership.
  • Respond to technical queries from clients, contractors, and suppliers throughout project execution.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation, drawings, and participate in design reviews and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Undertake site visits to monitor installation quality, promote continuous improvement, and reinforce a strong safety culture.
  • Oversee the preparation and completion of electrical handover documentation.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience across electrical design, construction, commissioning, and estimation within both new-build and refurbishment environments. Experience supporting large-scale, complex projects during pre-construction is essential. Given the breadth of technologies involved—ranging from HV systems and BESS to PV and hydrogen—adaptability and enthusiasm for the energy transition are key.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng/MEng), HNC, or equivalent.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering across energy, industrial, commercial, or public sector projects.
  • Proven delivery of full EPC project lifecycles, from concept through commissioning.
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • Building electrical systems (lighting, metering, BMS, SCADA)
  • HV systems (11kV–132kV) and LV distribution
  • PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Power supply and control systems for hydrogen production
  • Grid compliance (G99/G100), DNO and ICP coordination
  • EV charging infrastructure and smart load management
  • Strong understanding of electrical testing, FAT, SAT, and commissioning procedures.
  • Proficiency with electrical design and simulation tools (e.g. ETAP, Amtech).
  • Benefits

    • Competitive salary
    • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
    • Annual bonus
    • Car allowance
    • Private healthcare
    • Fully remote working
