We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of two construction schemes across Cumbria, acting in the role of Principal Contractor and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

The Projects
- £2.5 million re-roofing project
- A Laboratory refurbishment, including:
- Re-roofing works
- Mechanical & Electrical installations
- Internal laboratory refurbishment
- Small demolition works
Each project will have a dedicated Site Manager responsible for the day-to-day site operations. Your role will be to provide strategic leadership, coordinate project delivery, manage stakeholders and consultants, and act as the Principal Contractor while protecting the clients' interests throughout the construction programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the successful delivery of both construction projects.
- Lead the project teams, supporting the Site Managers and ensuring works are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Act as the Principal Contractor, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and all statutory obligations.
- Manage client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact throughout project delivery.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design and consultant teams.
- Monitor programme, cost, quality and risk across both schemes.
- Establish and maintain effective governance, reporting and programme controls.
- Chair project meetings and provide regular progress reports to senior stakeholders.
- Ensure contractual obligations are met and project objectives are achieved.
- Manage change control, risk mitigation and project communications.
- Promote a collaborative culture focused on quality, safety and client satisfaction.
About You
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant pre-contract project or programme management experience.
- Experience delivering public-sector infrastructure, regeneration or built-environment projects.
- Strong construction delivery knowledge with experience managing multiple workstreams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including working with public sector clients and local authorities.
- Experience establishing governance structures, reporting processes and programme controls.
- The ability to lead multidisciplinary consultant and project teams.
- Strong commercial awareness and risk management capability.
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Chartered status with APM, CIOB, RICS or ICE, or working towards chartership.
- PRINCE2, MSP or equivalent structured project or programme management qualification.
Desirable:
- Engineering or regeneration project background.
- Experience acting in a Principal Contractor capacity under CDM Regulations.
- Site Based qualifications of CITB SMSTS, First Aid and CSCS CARD would also be advantageous.
