Morson Edge are working with a leading global multidisciplinary consultancy to recruit a Specification Consultant or Senior Specification Consultant to join their growing Specification Consultancy team in London or Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an Architectural Technologist, Specification Writer or Specification Consultant looking to specialise within a dedicated technical consultancy environment. You will work across a diverse portfolio of UK and international projects, supporting both internal design teams and external clients across sectors including Defence, Nuclear, Justice, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Transport, Government, Commercial and the Middle East.

The Opportunity
Working alongside Architects, Architectural Technologists, Building Surveyors and multidisciplinary design teams, you will be responsible for producing coordinated architectural specifications throughout the design process. Rather than simply writing specifications, you will interrogate architectural designs, challenge proposals where required and develop robust technical specifications that align with design intent, contract requirements, performance criteria and project objectives. Projects typically range from 3-9 months, with multiple live commissions running simultaneously across both the UK and international markets. Senior-level candidates will also have the opportunity to lead projects, mentor junior consultants, build long-term client relationships, contribute to business development and play a key role in the continued growth of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed architectural specifications using NBS Chorus.
- Review architectural designs and develop coordinated project specifications.
- Work closely with Architects, Architectural Technologists, Building Surveyors and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Interrogate design proposals to ensure appropriate specification solutions.
- Coordinate specifications with drawings, BIM models and technical documentation.
- Advise on material selection, construction methods and technical compliance.
- Support projects across multiple RIBA work stages.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external clients.
- Lead projects and mentor junior team members (Senior level).
- Contribute to business development, repeat business and process improvements (Senior level).
Essential Skills & Experience
- Background in Architectural Technology, Architecture, Building Surveying or Specification Writing.
- Experience producing architectural specifications using NBS Chorus.
- Strong understanding of building construction, materials and detailing.
- Ability to coordinate specifications alongside drawings and BIM information.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable Experience
- Autodesk Revit and BIM workflows.
- Knowledge of CAWS and Uniclass classification systems.
- Site or construction experience.
- Experience within Defence, Nuclear, Healthcare, Justice, Infrastructure or other highly regulated sectors.
- Experience managing projects or mentoring junior staff.
- Business development and client relationship management (Senior level).
