Hybrid – 2/3 days office

I'm recruiting for a Principal Civil & Structural Designer to join a growing engineering team supporting major nuclear, petrochemical, and process plant projects across the UK. This is a senior role focused on RC detailing, 3D modelling, layout design and multi-disciplinary coordination, working on both greenfield and brownfield schemes. You'll help shape design delivery, mentor junior designers, and contribute to quality, safety, and continuous improvement across the discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and develop detailed civil and structural drawings, including RC detailing, GA drawings, models and layouts.
  • Work with design software such as E3D, AutoCAD or similar tools to produce accurate, buildable design information.
  • Support lead/principal engineers by reviewing and checking design deliverables.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys and data collection to inform design development.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and performance support to less experienced team members.
  • Assist with recruitment, succession planning and developing technical capability within the team.
  • Ensure adherence to discipline procedures, standards, legislation and best practice.
  • Capture learning opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement across the department.
  • Maintain your own competence and CPD, actively pursuing professional development.

Qualifications

  • HND (or higher) in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in civil/structural design within industrial, nuclear, energy or process environments.
  • Strong skills in RC detailing, layout design and structural modelling.
  • Proficient in E3D, AutoCAD, and other relevant design tools.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, structural codes, and typical materials/construction methods.
  • Great communicator with proven ability to lead, mentor and coordinate others.
  • Able to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic about engineering, quality and continual improvement.
