And Yorkshire Housing Limited

We’re looking for an experienced and customer focused Environmental Services Team Leader to join our team, leading the delivery of grounds maintenance and environmental services across our communities in Yorkshire. In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring our outdoor spaces are maintained to a high standard, supporting the delivery of safe, sustainable, and customer-focused services while leading and developing a team to achieve excellent results. We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go — so if you want to work for a company that is truly flexible and where you are valued, this could be the role for you!

What we’re all about

Here at Yorkshire Housing, our customers are at the heart of what we do – we call it being customer obsessed. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire, with a mission to make it possible for our customers to have a place they’re proud to call home. Creating safe, attractive, and well‑maintained outdoor environments is an important part of delivering great places to live. As an Environmental Services Team Leader, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our grounds maintenance and environmental services are delivered to a high standard while driving performance, value for money, and customer satisfaction.

What will you be doing?

You’ll provide leadership and direction to operatives and contractors, ensuring that grounds maintenance and environmental services are delivered effectively and aligned with organisational priorities. Working closely with the Environmental Services Manager and a range of internal and external stakeholders, you’ll oversee operational delivery across the West and North regions, monitor performance, and ensure quality standards are achieved. Your role will involve a combination of leadership, operational oversight, contractor management, and technical expertise, helping to drive improvements in service delivery, customer experience, and environmental outcomes.

You’ll also:

  • Lead and support teams delivering grounds maintenance and environmental services
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations, ensuring work is completed on time and to a high standard
  • Manage minor works programmes including fencing, landscaping, tree planting, and woodland maintenance
  • Monitor performance, quality, and customer satisfaction, implementing improvements where needed
  • Manage grounds maintenance contractors through regular performance reviews and meetings
  • Build positive relationships with customers, community groups, housing teams, and other stakeholders
  • Prepare specifications and support the delivery of environmental improvement projects
  • Manage environmental health‑related activities, including invasive species control and sharps removal
  • Champion health and safety compliance, including risk assessments, COSHH, vehicle management, and incident reporting
  • Prepare and deliver performance reports to support decision making and continuous improvement

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who is a strong leader, technically knowledgeable, and passionate about delivering excellent services.

You’ll bring:

  • A recognised qualification or equivalent experience in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or community-based services
  • Experience managing and developing people
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supporting teams
  • The ability to motivate others and maintain high standards across a service
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively
  • Experience of trailer and plant towing
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive approach to performance management and service improvement
  • The ability to think strategically and deliver against targets
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, respond to emergency call‑outs, and work outside normal office hours when required

What’s in it for you

  • Salary: £39,524.10 plus £2,000 car allowance per year (35 hours per week)
  • 26 days annual leave (rising each year to 31 days) and Bank Holidays
  • Benefits package including a health cash plan (claim back on things such as prescriptions and eye tests), retail discounts, and a pension scheme with contributions matched up to 9%
  • Flexibility with hub, home, roam approach and support for development with internal and external training opportunities
  • Wellbeing support package, including a library of free fitness classes, an instant My GP service, and free counselling sessions with a trained professional

Now you’re really interested? At YH, we’re actively building a working environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference makes us stronger and encourage applications from all backgrounds. We know not everyone will meet every requirement. If your experience looks a little different but you think you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you — so please apply!
