Who We Are: AND Digital are a tech company focused on accelerating digital delivery and dedicated to closing the digital skills gap. We’ve been helping organisations build better digital products and stronger digital teams since 2014. We believe our work should always make a remarkable impact for our clients. We do this through our regional offices (or ‘Clubs’) building strong relationships with our partners, so that they are always prioritised by a team within close proximity. This unique model has driven success for our clients and ourselves, evidenced by our remarkable organic growth since 2014. Today we number more than 1,300 people with Clubs all over the UK, Europe and the USA with plans for global expansion in the next couple of years. Join us - and help us fulfil our mission to close the world’s digital skills gap.

The Role: As a Software Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving digital transformation for one of our largest clients in the Energy & Utilities sector. Leading 4 cross-functional agile squads, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery, architectural integrity, and operational excellence of our digital platforms. This is a unique opportunity for a technical, hands-on leader who can bridge the gap between Salesforce Industries (SFI / Vlocity) and AWS cloud-native architectures. You will champion software engineering best practices, mature our DevOps/CI/CD capabilities, and foster a high-performance culture that puts quality at the heart of everything we build.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivery Leadership & Squad Management
    • Squad Orchestration: Oversee and coordinate 4 cross-functional development squads (comprising developers, QAs, BAs, and product specialists), ensuring alignment, velocity, and healthy delivery cycles.
    • Agile Excellence: Collaborate closely with Product Owners and Agile Delivery Leads to manage backlog prioritization, refine sprint planning, and resolve technical blockers.
    • Team Growth & Mentorship: Lead, coach, and mentor technical talent, setting clear objectives and cultivating an environment of continuous learning, psychological safety, and innovation.
  • Salesforce Industries (SFI) Technical Leadership
    • Architectural Oversight: Act as the subject matter expert and technical lead for Salesforce Industries (formerly Vlocity) implementations, specifically leveraging the Energy & Utilities Cloud.
    • Declarative & Programmatic Design: Guide squads in best practices for designing scalable OmniStudio components.
    • Integration Strategy: Oversee the architectural alignment of SFI front-ends with back-end enterprise systems and third-party utility platforms.
  • SDLC & DevOps Pipeline Ownership
    • End-to-End SDLC Management: Take complete ownership of the release cycle from local code development to production environments, drawing on 5+ years of pipeline management experience.
    • Pipeline Maturation: Define, implement, and automate CI/CD pipeline strategies tailored to hybrid Salesforce/AWS ecosystems.
    • Release Governance: Oversee branching strategies, sandboxing management, environment synchronisation, and rollback strategies to ensure zero-downtime, safe deployments.
  • AWS Cloud-Native Integration
    • Serverless Architecture: Guide the squads on integrating Salesforce securely and efficiently with AWS components, ensuring robust service-to-service communication.
    • Event-Driven Patterns: Oversee the design and implementation of event-driven workflows leveraging AWS Lambdas, AWS EventBridge, SQS, and SNS to handle heavy volumes of utility transaction data.
    • Data Flow Optimisation: Collaborate on APIs and microservices that enable high-volume data exchanges between core utility billing/metering systems and the customer-facing CRM.
  • High-Quality & Engineering Standards
    • Quality First Mindset: Define, track, and advocate for engineering benchmarks, static code analysis, and peer-review standards.
    • Testing Automation: Ensure robust test coverage, driving the implementation of automated unit testing and automated end-to-end integration testing.
    • Reliability & Performance: Establish monitoring, telemetry, and logging frameworks across both Salesforce and AWS to guarantee uptime, scalability, and system resilience.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical Experience
    • Salesforce Industries (SFI) Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience designing, developing, and leading implementations using Salesforce Industries / Vlocity (OmniStudio). Specifically, experience with Energy & Utilities Cloud or related large-scale telco/utility configurations is highly desirable.
    • AWS Cloud Proficiency: Strong hands-on understanding of AWS concepts, specifically serverless computing (AWS Lambda, EventBridge, API Gateway) and cloud integration patterns.
    • DevOps Mastery: 5+ years of experience owning, building, and managing complex SDLC pipelines from code commit through to production release.
    • Quality Assurance: Experience implementing modern automation-first testing strategies, code coverage targets, and test-driven development (TDD).
  • Leadership & Soft Skills
    • Scale & Complexity: Track record of managing multiple technical squads (ideally 4+ squads or 25+ developers) in a fast-paced environment.
    • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical architectures into business-friendly solutions for senior leadership and client stakeholders.
    • Problem Solver: A practical, outcome-focused mindset with a dedication to engineering craft, clean code, and user-centric design.

Preferred (But Not Essential)

  • Relevant Salesforce Certifications (e.g., OmniStudio Developer, OmniStudio Consultant, SFI Energy & Utilities Cloud Specialist).
  • AWS Certified Developer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Direct domain experience within energy retail, smart metering, billing, or deregulated utility services.

Equal Opportunities Statement: We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. We actively encourage applications from women, ethnic minorities, and individuals with disabilities. We consider all flexible working arrangements, subject to the requirements of the role. Where reasonable adjustments are needed, we will strive to make changes to accommodate them.
