The Role

We are looking for an experienced Lead Java Developer to join our engineering team and play a key role in the design, development and operation of cloud-native services within our clients Accounts platform.

You will provide technical leadership across the full software delivery lifecycle, from solution design and development through to deployment, monitoring and production support.

You will work closely with other engineers, architects and stakeholders to build secure, scalable and resilient services using modern Java and cloud technologies.

This is an opportunity to make a significant technical contribution while helping to shape engineering standards, development practices and the future direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of robust, scalable Java services and APIs.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to other developers, supporting best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Design and develop cloud-native microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Contribute to architectural and technical decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and fit for purpose.
  • Deploy, operate and support applications across AWS and Kubernetes environments.
  • Drive high standards across software engineering, including code quality, testing, automation, security and resilience.
  • Champion effective CI/CD practices and continuous improvement across the development lifecycle.
  • Implement and promote effective monitoring, logging and observability practices.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues, taking ownership through to resolution and ensuring lessons are incorporated into future development.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, technical documentation and development processes.

Essential Experience

  • We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience in:
  • Java, with substantial commercial development experience.
  • Spring Boot and development of RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Designing and developing microservices and event-driven solutions.
  • Kubernetes and containerised application environments.
  • AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.
  • Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • CI/CD tooling and modern Dev Ops practices.
  • Monitoring and observability tools, such as Grafana.
  • Automated testing and engineering quality practices.
