The Finance Business Partner is the primary financial voice to the Commercial and Sales teams at Ancient + Brave. This role translates financial performance into commercial insight — helping the business understand what is driving revenue, margin, and growth, and where the key opportunities and risks lie. It is a forward‑looking, relationship‑driven role. The right person will be commercially curious, confident engaging with senior stakeholders, and capable of building trust quickly through the quality of their analysis and the clarity of their communication. Operating as the bridge between Finance and the Commercial function, the Finance Business Partner will bring rigour to commercial decision‑making, challenge assumptions with evidence, and help the business move faster and with greater confidence.
What you’ll be doing
- Commercial Partnering: Act as the dedicated finance partner to the Commercial and Sales leadership team. Build trusted relationships with commercial stakeholders, attending key planning, trading, and review forums. Provide proactive financial challenge and support to commercial decisions, including pricing, promotions, channel strategy, and new product launches. Translate financial data into clear, accessible insight that drives action — not just reporting.
- Revenue & Trading Performance: Own the commercial performance narrative: revenue, gross margin, channel mix, CAC, ROAS and customer‑level profitability. Produce weekly and monthly trading analysis, identifying key drivers, variances to plan, and emerging risks or opportunities. Support post‑promotion and campaign evaluation, ensuring investment decisions are grounded in financial returns. Monitor SKU‑level and channel‑level performance, working alongside the FP&A Analyst to ensure granular accuracy.
- Planning & Forecasting: Lead the commercial input into the budget and re‑forecast cycles, working closely with Sales and Commercial teams to build credible, bottom‑up plans. Own the commercial forecast within the rolling forecast process, ensuring assumptions are current, well‑reasoned and clearly documented. Build and maintain financial models that support scenario planning and commercial sensitivity analysis. Contribute to the S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) process with robust commercial and financial data.
- Business Insight & Storytelling: Prepare high‑quality analysis packs and presentations for trading reviews, board updates, and ad‑hoc commercial decisions. Develop a deep understanding of the commercial model: channel economics, customer contribution, promotional ROI, and category dynamics. Surface trends and issues proactively — don’t wait to be asked. Bring an outside‑in perspective: benchmark performance, identify analogues, and stress‑test assumptions.
- Finance Process & Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive improvements in how commercial performance is tracked, reported, and understood across the business. Work closely with the FP&A team to ensure data integrity and consistency between commercial and central reporting. Support the development of scalable, repeatable commercial finance tools and templates.
Who you are
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Demonstrable experience in a business partnering or commercial finance role, ideally within a consumer goods, FMCG, DTC, or similar fast‑paced environment.
- Comfortable working with commercial and sales teams — you understand their language, priorities, and pressures.
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills; ability to structure complex problems and present findings clearly.
- Experience working within a budgeting and forecasting cycle, with ownership of commercial inputs.
- Clear communicator: able to distil complex financial information into concise, compelling narratives for non‑finance audiences.
- Proactive and curious: you seek out insight rather than wait for questions to be asked.
- Commercially minded: you think like a business owner as well as a finance professional.
- Collaborative by nature: you build relationships easily and are trusted by the teams you work with.
- Detail‑oriented but not detail‑bound: you know when to go deep and when to step back to see the bigger picture.
