We operate the Anaplan Private Cloud—a mature, production‑grade Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform built on OpenStack. We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for managing, scaling, and optimising this extensive private cloud environment. With your guidance, the team will ensure our production platform delivers the high availability, security, and unparalleled agility required by Anaplan’s internal engineering teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and expand a team of Infrastructure Engineers responsible for the operational excellence, scaling, and maintenance of our production OpenStack private cloud across multiple global regions.
  • Define and execute the ongoing engineering strategy for our production private cloud, focusing on reliability, capacity management, and performance optimisation, ensuring it optimally supports our internal consumers and Kubernetes workloads.
  • Communicate effectively; reach out to other teams involved in the delivery of your services and help information flow between teams.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that emphasizes operational maturity, automation, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the development and execution of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Python, Juju, and GitHub.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders across the organization (including SRE, SecOps, and Product Engineering) to ensure private cloud services align with business goals and SLAs.
  • Manage and mentor team members, providing career development planning, coaching, and performance management.
  • Drive initiatives to optimise hardware utilisation and improve system performance across our physical data centres.
  • Leverage emerging AI tooling and frameworks to enhance the management, automation, and operations of our infrastructure environments.
  • Promote and uphold best practices in private cloud security, high availability, and scalability.
  • Evaluate new infrastructure technologies and vendor offerings to continually evolve the Anaplan Private Cloud stack.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive managerial experience in a high‑growth environment, specifically running production data centres or private cloud infrastructure at scale.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse and distributed teams of technical professionals in a 24/7 large‑scale infrastructure environment.
  • Strong technical foundation in operating production private cloud services (OpenStack), hypervisors (KVM), and bare‑metal provisioning (MAAS/Ironic), coupled with a solid understanding of container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with modern automation, configuration management, and DevOps practices (Terraform, Python, Ansible, Juju, Bash).
  • Experience with infrastructure observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki), security best practices, and infrastructure cost management.
  • Adept in stakeholder management, capable of influencing outcomes and communicating technical details to a non‑technical audience.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills, with an ability to motivate and guide teams toward achieving strict business and technology goals.
  • Relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, and preferably a master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience managing teams in an agile environment.

Experience with the following is essential

  • Leadership in large‑scale, production private cloud environments (OpenStack).
  • Managing senior engineering resources and infrastructure lifecycles.
  • Supporting Kubernetes / containerised workloads on top of private cloud infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management.
  • Production hardware management, private cloud architectures, and operational resilience strategies.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Canonical's ecosystem (Charmed OpenStack, MAAS, Juju, Landscape).
  • Deep understanding of distributed storage (Ceph, Swift, Cinder) and software‑defined networking (Neutron, Open vSwitch, OVN).
