Are you ready to go from "Hello World" to shipping real code? We’re looking for the next generation of engineers to join our 2026 Development Academy here in York. If you’re a recent graduate (1-3 yrs), this is your invite to dive into an opportunity of a lifetime. Your journey starts in September 2026 and you’ll spend your first year with us in the Academy. You won’t just be watching from the sidelines though; you’ll be building real-world apps, solving big problems, and making an actual impact to our customers. Once you’ve crushed the Academy, you’ll be drafted into one of our core engineering teams.
Why you’ll love it here:
- The Academy: Dedicated time to sharpen your stack before you hit the main stage. No being thrown in the deep end without a life jacket.
- Top‑Tier Tech: Get hands‑on with the latest tech such as public cloud, Kubernetes, Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, React, Kotlin, GitOps, Jenkins, Terraform, AI and ML tooling just to name a few.
- Culture Over Everything: We’re a collaborative, "ideas‑first" team. We challenge each other, inspire each other, and make sure your growth is a priority, not an afterthought.
Your Impact
Once you’ve levelled up in the Academy and joined your squad, you won’t just be another dev in the system. You’ll be a key player in how we deliver. Here’s how you’ll make your mark:
- Build for the Future: You’ll be writing clean, scalable code using modern technology that actually lasts. We’re talking about high‑performance applications running on Kubernetes and cloud architectures. This isn’t just "practice"; it’s the tech that powers our mission.
- Ship with Confidence: In our teams, we own what we build. You’ll ensure your code is bulletproof by writing robust tests and setting up real‑time observability (Grafana). You won’t just ship and forget; you’ll learn how to monitor your work in the wild and keep it running smoothly.
- Stay Curious: Technology moves fast, and so do you. You’ll dive deep into our core stack while staying agile enough to pick up new tools on the fly. You're here to learn, and we’re here to make sure you never stop.
- Speak Your Mind: We tackle complex, brain‑teasing problems every day. You’ll collaborate with some of the best in the game, learning how to break down big ideas and explain the "why" behind your code so everyone’s on board.
- Bring Your Energy: We love a self-starter. You’ll own your tasks and take pride in delivering solutions that have high quality and high impact.
- Find Your Voice: Our teams are full of passionate engineers who love a good debate. As you find your feet, we want you right there in the mix, sharing your ideas, challenging the status quo, and bringing your unique perspective to the table.
- Leadership: Join our alumni and mentor and share your experience with our new graduate cohorts on an annual basis.
Your Qualifications
We’re not looking for a "perfect on paper" candidate. We’re looking for someone who is hungry to build and ready to learn. Whether you’re a formal student or a self‑taught grinder, here’s what we’re looking for:
- The Foundation: You’ve got a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or you’ve gained equivalent experience in a professional environment. If you have the skills, we want to see them.
- The Code: You’ve played around with at least one recognised programming language. It doesn’t matter if this was for a grade, a job, or just a late‑night passion project.
- Show Us Your Work: Got a GitHub, a portfolio, or a side project you’re proud of? We’d love to see it. We value real‑world curiosity and the "build-in-public" mindset.
Preferred Skills
You don’t need to be an expert in everything on day one—that’s what the Development Academy is for. But if you’ve dabbled in these, you’ll hit the ground running:
- Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, React, Kotlin: Our teams live and breathe these. If you’ve got experience in any of these, you’re already ahead of the game.
- The Container Game: Most of what we ship lives in Docker containers. If you know your way around Docker or Helm, you’ll quickly see how our code makes it to the finish line.
- Cloud & Kubernetes: We’re big on Kubernetes here. No stress if you haven’t used it yet.
When you join us, you’re not just a "grad" in a seat; you’re joining a community of engineers who care about each other’s success. We’ve built a culture that wins together. Many of our top lead engineers have started exactly where you are right now. They’ve grown their careers here, and now they’re ready to pay it forward by mentoring you. We are looking for future leaders in our engineering team. We’ll give you the support, the stack, and the space to grow; the rest is up to you.
