The Digital Healthcare (DHC) business unit is seeking a highly motivated Sensor Evaluation Engineer to support a broad range of experiments involving optical testing, electrochemical measurements, and biological sample handling as well as taking on some laboratory management responsibilities. This work underpins the development of advanced biosensor systems incorporating optical and electrochemical sensing modes, microfluidics, measurement electronics, and analytical algorithms to deliver reliable, high‑performance biomarker measurements for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. This is a hands‑on, lab‑based role suited to someone who thrives in a busy experimental environment, enjoys practical problem‑solving, and communicates effectively with colleagues.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Experimental Activities
    • Support and execute a wide range of optical and electrochemical sensor experiments.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot optical test setups and electrochemical measurement rigs.
    • Perform sample preparation, inspection, and handling of biological materials such as blood using established laboratory protocols.
  • Laboratory & Operational Responsibilities
    • Manage day‑to‑day lab operations, including stock control and consumable replenishment.
    • Maintain laboratory organisation, cleanliness, and compliance with internal procedures.
    • Oversee waste disposal processes, including chemical and biohazard waste streams.
    • Conduct scheduled calibration and routine checks of lab instrumentation to ensure reliable performance.
    • Support continuous improvements in lab workflows, documentation, and experimental efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Support
    • Work closely with sensor scientists and engineers to enable rapid iteration of experimental designs.
    • Communicate experimental progress, observations, and results clearly to team members.
    • Demonstrate a proactive, flexible mindset when supporting multiple project needs.

Qualifications

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, or a related field OR significant experience as a senior laboratory technician in an engineering, biomedical, or analytical sciences setting.

Experience

  • Experience working in laboratory environments with hands‑on responsibility for equipment.
  • Familiarity with optical, electrochemical, or related sensor technologies.
  • Comfort handling biological samples, for example blood.
  • Experience building or operating experimental test setups.
  • Basic understanding of measurement principles, instrumentation, or data collection workflows.
