About the Role

We are seeking a Staff/Technical Lead to drive the development of next-generation embedded software tools and AI-enhanced toolchains for cutting-edge SoCs. This role requires deep embedded systems expertise, a strong foundation in developer tooling, and the ability to lead and grow a technical team in embedded software and toolchains. You will play a critical role in defining and implementing modern, best-in-class embedded development workflows that improve developer productivity for firmware, compilers, debuggers, middleware integration, and system configuration. Additionally, you will help integrate AI/ML technologies into embedded tooling to enhance debugging, profiling, optimization, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the architecture, design, and roadmap of embedded software development tools and AI embedded inference toolchains.
  • Lead a small team of engineers while providing technical guidance and mentorship, with a path to management across embedded and embedded toolchain domains.
  • Develop and maintain Open-Source tools for embedded debugging, profiling, system configuration, compilers, SDKs, middleware, and automation frameworks.
  • Work closely with hardware IP teams to define and implement developer-friendly toolchains for mixed-signal, heterogeneous embedded devices.
  • Help integrate AI/ML capabilities by supporting the development of an AI toolchain for ADI’s embedded hardware, enabling seamless model compilation, optimization, and deployment.
  • Evaluate and enhance embedded development workflows by leveraging open-source and commercial toolchains (LLVM, GCC, GDB, Clang, CMake, Zephyr).
  • Advocate for best-in-class embedded software development environments, ensuring high-quality documentation and smooth developer experiences.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including open-source communities and industry groups, to influence the embedded tooling ecosystem.
  • Explore AI-driven automation to reduce debugging time, optimize firmware development, and streamline build processes.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong embedded systems experience (bare-metal, RTOS, or embedded Linux).
  • Expertise in developer tooling (debuggers, compilers, profilers, SDKs, system configuration tools).
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, with experience in firmware and low-level software development.
  • Understanding of embedded toolchains (LLVM, GCC, binutils, Clang, GDB, IAR).
  • AI/ML experience applied to software tooling, such as AI-assisted debugging, performance optimization, or automation.
  • Experience with build systems (CMake, Make, Ninja) and source control best practices (Git, GitHub, CI/CD).
  • Technical leadership experience – mentoring engineers, leading projects, defining architecture.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, observability, logging, and profiling tools for embedded systems.
  • Ability to grow into a management role, leading teams across embedded software and embedded toolchain domains.

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have, But Not Mandatory)

  • Experience with Zephyr RTOS and open-source RTOS ecosystems.
  • Experience contributing to and working with open-source ecosystems.
  • Understanding of heterogeneous architectures (ARM, RISC-V, DSPs, custom SoCs).
  • Experience integrating AI/ML for embedded optimization or tooling automation.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, Rust, etc for command-line tooling and web-based developer tools.

Why Join Us?

  • Lead high-impact projects shaping the future of embedded software development.
  • Work on cutting-edge embedded hardware with world-class teams.
  • Grow into a leadership/management role while staying technically hands-on.
  • Be part of an innovation-driven environment, defining the next generation of AI-enhanced embedded toolchains.
