There is currently an open position for an Electronic Systems Design Engineer in the Joint Development Team (JDT) of Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI). The successful candidate will contribute to new technological developments which will help Analog Devices remain a global leader in the design and manufacture of analog, mixed signal, and DSP integrated circuits which are part of solving the toughest engineering challenges. The position will be a hybrid of home/office-based work in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Joint Development Team is a small, independent, cross-disciplinary group working within the Data Center & Energy division of Analog Devices, Inc. Its charter is to accelerate the development of key components, systems, algorithms and techniques necessary to advance the state of the art in targeted areas within these market segments and to collaborate with focused product development teams to get these advances to the marketplace. Past, current and future research areas include energy metering & fault detection, advanced medical devices, imaging, security electronics, ultra-precision references and data converters.
The group culture aims to foster a challenging, exciting, and supportive environment. The team members must be comfortable working on a wide variety of products and technologies in a fast-paced and agile environment and will be exposed to various groups across the corporation's many sites through all stages of the development cycle.
The successful applicant will be based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and be responsible for:
- Evaluation of newly developed ICs within the context of their applications
- The design of demonstration systems that are tailored to customer needs
- Data gathering and processing to make conclusions on the performance of ICs
- Design of wider systems for demonstrating the use of ADI's sensors and ICs
- Reporting on discoveries which may be of interest to others in the company
- Interaction with customers and associated travel
- Mentoring interns and newly graduated engineers
Requirements:
- Electrical or electronic engineering degree and 3-5 years of experience. This could be further education or industrial experience.
- Experience in:
- System level circuit design including simulation using a tool such as LTspice
- PCB design including applications requiring advanced layout principles for maintaining integrity when signals are sensitive or high speed
- PC-based programming (e.g. Python or C) with good software engineering principles including version control
- FPGA programming including state machine design in a language such as Verilog
- Graphical programming systems such as LabVIEW for data acquisition, instrument control and automation
- Using statistics to analyze large datasets with an appreciation of how the certainty of the statistics could be limited
- Analog IC design and simulation experience using a tool such as Cadence
- Applications knowledge in relevant product areas
