Analog Devices is seeking an experienced Principal Analog/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer with deep expertise in Audio Data Converter (ADC/DAC) design to lead the development of next-generation, high-performance consumer audio products. This role offers the opportunity to work on ground-breaking technologies that will redefine the future of audio, within a collaborative, diverse, and knowledge-sharing environment, while mentoring and developing junior engineers. It is an ideal position for strengthening technical leadership and cross-team collaboration through close engagement with global design teams.
As a key member of the Audio PES team, you will architect and design next-generation high-performance audio solutions that shape how devices operate and how music is experienced. These integrated circuits enable high-volume, high-visibility products for market-leading customers who depend on best-in-class audio performance to differentiate their offerings. The rapid proliferation of connected devices, combined with aggressive form-factor reduction in audio peripherals, continues to push the boundaries of existing solutions - driving the need for innovative architectures and novel system-level trade-offs and circuit-level design innovations.
The successful candidate will join a company with a strong legacy of breakthrough innovation in delta-sigma ADCs and DACs, including continuous-time and switched-capacitor architectures, as well as Class-D amplifiers and ultra-low-power, low-latency audio solutions. In this role, you will contribute directly to architectural definition, critical circuit design, verification strategy, and silicon validation, influencing multiple product generations and advancing the state-of-the-art in consumer audio IC design.
Responsibilities
- Lead the detailed definition and architectural development of high-performance mixed-signal ICs, driving system-level trade-offs and transistor-level design decisions.
- Own architecture definition, block-level design, and transistor-level circuit implementation, including full cycle comprehensive simulation and verification.
- Drive the integration of analog and digital blocks into complex mixed-signal systems, ensuring robust functionality and performance.
- Deliver clear and effective technical presentations and design reviews to internal engineering teams and Tier-1 customers.
- Support layout, lab evaluation, testing, qualification, and product engineering functions to ensure successful delivery, meeting all requirements and quality goals.
Requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 10+ years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience designing high-performance, low-power delta-sigma ADCs and DACs, from architectural concept through production silicon.
- Deep expertise in mixed-signal electronics, with extensive hands-on experience using industry-standard design tools, methodologies, and verification flows.
- Expert-level understanding of delta-sigma fundamentals and non-idealities, including noise shaping, distortion mechanisms, idle tones, jitter sensitivity, stability, linearity, device mismatch, clocking, and layout effects.
- Proven design experience with switching audio amplifiers (e.g., Class-D), switching power conversion circuits (buck/boost), as well as precision analog blocks such as amplifiers, bandgap references, bias circuits, and LDOs.
- Broad circuit design background encompassing high-gain amplifiers, switched-capacitor and switched-current circuits, and high-resolution ADC/DAC architectures.
- Demonstrated first-pass silicon success record of successfully delivering multiple integrated circuits into high-volume production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within multi-site, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cadence/Spectre and behavioral/system-level modeling tools (MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or equivalent).
- Ability to lead through technical influence, drive consensus, and guide teams without direct managerial authority.
- Willingness to support the role through limited domestic and international travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience achieving ~120dB SNR and ultra-low power and best-in-class THD+N audio performances in audio data converter designs.
- Background in professional audio, consumer audio, or precision mixed-signal IC development.
- Hands-on experience with Class-D amplifier design for audio applications.
- Solid understanding of digital audio fundamentals, including DSP, digital filtering, interpolation/decimation, and delta-sigma modulation.
- Passion for Audio.
