To lead and manage all financial activity for An Lanntair, ensuring robust financial control, compliance with public funding requirements, and the provision of high‑quality financial insight to support strategic decision‑making. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the postholder will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation’s sustainability by balancing its charitable objectives with commercial performance and ensuring effective financial planning across both earned and funded income streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership & Strategy
    • Lead the organisation’s financial planning, including project and annual budgets and yearly financial forecasts.
    • Work closely with the CEO and senior managers to develop strategic and financially robust business plans and oversee project budgets.
  • Public Funding & Budget Management
    • Assist programme/project staff to develop realistic, compliant project budgets and support on funding applications.
    • Lead on financial reporting for all public funding (e.g. Creative Scotland, Local Authority and other funders).
  • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Produce accurate management accounts, including cashflow forecasting and variance analysis.
    • Prepare and present financial reports to the Board and Finance Committee.
    • Lead the year‑end process and act as primary contact for external auditors.
    • Ensure integrity and accuracy and a clear audit trail of all financial data.
    • Oversee An Lanntair’s bank accounts and manage day‑to‑day banking requirements.
  • Compliance, Governance & Risk
    • Ensure compliance with charity accounting standards, statutory funding requirements and conditions.
    • Manage and maintain VAT, tax and other financial obligations.
    • Support the CEO, the finance committee and Board in maintaining strong financial governance and oversight.
    • Attend quarterly meetings of the Finance Committee.
    • Contribute to organisational risk management, particularly in relation to financial sustainability.
  • Systems & Digital Finance
    • Lead the development and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
    • Operate modern cloud‑based accounting systems (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, SAGE or equivalent).
    • Ensure systems support real‑time reporting, efficiency and organisational needs.
    • Record all income and expenditure streams.
  • Payroll & Financial Operations
    • Manage and prepare in association with our accountants the weekly and monthly payroll and pensions.
    • Ensure effective cashflow management and banking arrangements.
  • Commercial Activity
    • Produce financial performance reports of An Lanntair’s commercial income streams, including cafĂ© bar, retail and membership schemes.
    • Support commercial activity through financial insight, performance monitoring and cost control.
  • Team & Collaboration
    • Manage finance assistant and provide day‑to‑day support.
    • Support managers to plan, monitor and deliver their budgets.
    • Build financial confidence across the organisation through clear communication, guidance and training.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Significant experience in a finance role within a charity, public sector or creative organisation.
  • Experience of managing public funding budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Strong financial planning, budgeting, reporting and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience of audit processes, governance and statutory compliance.
  • Experience of using modern cloud‑based finance systems (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, SAGE or similar).
  • Ability to present financial information clearly to non‑financial colleagues, senior management and Boards.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Desirable

  • Professional accountancy qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience in arts, culture or creative industries.
  • Experience of mixed income models (earned + public funding).
  • Knowledge of charity VAT and restricted funds.
  • Experience supporting funding applications and capital projects.
