British Future is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of trustees, who believes in the power of cross-party working and close collaboration between politics, civil society and business to bring about social change. The Treasurer will work closely with the Director, the Chair and other Board members to lead the organisation, shaping its strategy and ensuring its smooth running, including:

  • Providing clear strategic direction for the organisation and ensuring delivery in line with that.
  • Supporting the fundraising efforts of the organisation through relevant networks and connections and, as appropriate, acting as an ambassador to promote the work of the organisation externally and safeguard its reputation and values.
  • Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation and that all funds received are used for their intended charitable purposes.

In addition, the Treasurer will help the Board of Trustees to carry out their financial responsibilities by:

  • Supporting the Board’s financial decision making by ensuring the Board has a thorough understanding of the organisation’s financial position.
  • Advising the Board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities, liaising with professional advisors as required.
  • Overseeing the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts.
  • Working closely with the British Future Director to ensure that all financial processes run smoothly and that management accounts and the annual report and statement of accounts are presented accurately and appropriately.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an accountancy qualification or strong experience of financial management at Board level.
  • Is excellent at communicating financial information to non-expert audiences.
  • Believes in the values and mission of British Future and in the power of cross-party working and close collaboration between politics and civil society to bring about social change.

Board positions are unremunerated. Board meetings will take place once every quarter and all trustees are expected to attend.
