THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Director to drive profitable growth for our Security Guarding business by identifying, qualifying and converting new opportunities, expanding existing client relationships and leading the end-to-end bid and tender process.
The role will build a high-quality pipeline aligned to our strategy, strengthen market presence and ensure that all new business is priced, mobilised and handed over effectively to deliver sustainable, compliant and high-performing contracts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- To define a clear pipeline and deliver contract awards in line with our company target. To support our growth strategy for Amulet and the wider Group
- Is consistent with the company strategy and growth targets, focusing on sectors where we can win and deliver operational excellence.
- Is informed by market intelligence, competitor insight and client demand, with a clear route-to-market and measurable pipeline objectives.
- Builds value-added propositions (e. g, mobile response, technology-enabled guarding, front-of-house and remote monitoring) that differentiate us and increase customer loyalty.
- Own the sales pipeline and ensure robust governance from lead generation through to contract award, including:
- Prospecting and lead generation via networking, partnerships, frameworks, events and targeted outreach.
- Clear pipeline, with contract names, value and meetings updated in both salesforce and the weekly and monthly meetings
- Leading written submissions, presentations, clarifications and stakeholder inputs (operations, HR, finance, compliance, HSEQ).
- Developing pricing models and keeping margins in line with the companies needs. Negotiating terms, and securing internal approvals in line with delegated authority.
- Building senior client relationships, understanding drivers and ensuring a strong client experience throughout the sales cycle.
- Attendance of site visits, client meetings face to face or via teams UK wide.
- Meeting and contributing to our annual new business target.
- Meeting and contributing to our retention target.
- Working with our existing clients and operations team for upcoming renewals to stop them going to tender and ideally extending services with us.
- Complete retenders and understand the client requirements clearly to put a propelling solution together for the greatness chance to retaining that business.
- Deliver new business results that meet or exceed agreed targets, maintaining accurate pipeline forecasting and reporting.
Ensure all opportunities are progressed with appropriate governance, that bid costs are controlled, and that successful awards are handed over effectively to Operations with clear mobilisation plans, assumptions, SLAs and client expectations.
- Win new Security Guarding contracts and grow revenue and profitability through disciplined opportunity selection, solution design and effective negotiation.
- Identify and secure additional profitable services within existing and new accounts (e. g., technology, mobile response, additional sites), working closely with operational leads.
- Protect margin through strong commercial discipline: validate costs and assumptions with Operations, ensure pricing aligns to risk and delivery model, and maintain high-quality bid documentation to minimise mobilisation and delivery risk.
- Maintain relationships with your customers that you have won and support with annual price increases
- Ensure costs are kept updated through our NBF process with business support the client and operations. All changes should be costed by the commercial team.
- Ensure compliant mobilisation and smooth handover by aligning stakeholders (HR, recruitment, training, screening, finance, compliance) and confirming client-ready plans, timelines and responsibilities.
- Ensure accuracy of all business development data (CRM, pipeline, bid tracker and forecasts) and regularly review and report progress, highlighting risks and variances early and taking action in collaboration with key stakeholders (Operations, HR, finance, compliance and procurement).
- Build, develop and lead a high-performing business development function and a strong internal network that demonstrates we are different to other security providers.
- Ensuring understanding and demonstrable implementation of the Amulet Values.
- Ensuring close working with the bid team and that the accuracy and ownership of all bids are of the BDD.
All bids should be reviewed and financial models signed off in line with our governance.
- Maintain excellent communication, share insight and best practice, recognise achievement and build a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Ensure prospect meetings, discovery sessions, site surveys and proposal activity are completed on time and to a high standard, with appropriate operational input and governance throughout.
- Drive our social value agenda to contribute meaningful work that creates a positive impact on our communities, supporting our mission with social value and sustainable outcomes.
- Be aware of, and (with the assistance of specialist functions and operational stakeholders) ensure all proposals and mobilisations comply with all aspects of company policy and relevant legal and regulatory requirements for security guarding (including licensing, screening/vetting, data protection and health & safety) and can demonstrate appropriate levels of control.
- To actively participate and support the development of Amulet through:
- Ensure the business development strategy is implemented through agreed critical steps, campaigns and initiatives, with clear measures of success.
- Work collaboratively with regional teams and support functions by sharing best practice, shaping compelling propositions and supporting key strategic bids and relationships.
- Build knowledge of the market and competitors, enhance brand profile through engagement with clients, partners and industry forums and maintain an active network to generate opportunities.
- Identify and support entry into new sectors, frameworks or partnerships, and assist with evaluation and integration of new service lines or acquisitions where appropriate.
SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in business development / sales within security guarding or a closely related facilities/outsourced services sector, with evidence of winning and growing contracts.
- Strong understanding of security guarding delivery models, relevant compliance requirements (e. g., SIA licensing, screening/vetting) and how to translate client risk and service needs into a practical solution.
- You are highly computer literate, with strong capability in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, word and Power Point) and CRM systems.
- You have evidence of strong planning, prioritisation and time management skills, able to manage multiple bids and stakeholders to deadline.
- You can demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, including influencing, presenting and writing clear and compelling proposals.
- You take a proactive, curious and solutions-led approach, using insight and data to shape propositions and overcome objections.
- You work effectively with colleagues across the business and can operate independently, taking ownership of outcomes.
- You are able to work under pressure and meet fixed tender deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Eligibility documents needed at interview: Passport or Full Birth Certificate; Utility Bill showing current address and dated within 3 months; Proof of National Insurance (Payslips cannot be used) such as NI card, P45, P60, benefits or HMRC letter.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- You must be able to provide a check-able 5-year employment history for vetting purposes (this can include full-time education or periods in receipt of benefits).
Possession of a First Aid at Work Certificate is desirable.
