This is a full-time role for a Field Service Engineer based in the Glasgow area with UK + European travel. The Field Service Engineer will perform field service operations including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and technical support for AMSC systems and solutions. Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
  • Conducting maintenance procedures.
  • Installing and commissioning equipment.
  • Supporting customers to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Performing failure analysis and root cause studies of premature component failures and formulating the actions necessary to match component reliability.
  • Performing on-site commissioning of D-VAR, PQ-SVC systems and inverter components and control electronics for domestic and international customers.
  • Training customers in operating and maintenance practices as appropriate for system type.
  • Assisting Engineering & Manufacturing with factory testing of new units.
  • Modifying documentation pertaining to each customer unit including schematics, user manuals, safety practices, etc., to reflect actual site/installation conditions.
  • Specifying, reviewing, and implementing specialized maintenance procedures for field installations.
  • Monitoring customer units to foresee problems and develop solutions before they affect the customer.
  • Interacting with customer representatives to solve problems that need to be handled remotely.
  • Providing written communications regarding customer units.
  • Producing, distributing, and maintaining files containing service reports after each on-site visit.
  • Maintaining files and writing monthly reports for each unit detailing carryovers.
  • Producing and distributing weekly reports to AMSC management on current field service activities.

European travel required. Travel time anticipated at least 50%.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant electrical qualifications HNC/HND (NVQ/SVQ lv 3, City & Guilds or Equivalent).
  • 2-5 years' experience in an electrical power, electronics environment, communication systems, electrical maintenance, field service role. Experience can be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Expertise in Field Service operations and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Strong Troubleshooting and Technical Support skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience in Customer Service to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to safety standards and protocols.
  • Availability to travel as needed to customer locations.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems or power networks is an advantage.
  • Relevant technical education or certifications in engineering or a related field.

Required skills, competencies and training needs:

  • Working knowledge of electrical power circuits.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics.
  • Ability to read schematics.
  • Computer knowledge in a Windows environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Ability to work both in teams and independently.
  • Basic knowledge of NEC and IEE standards for electrical installations.
  • Medium voltage safety training required or must be completed prior to field assignments.
  • Medium work with occasional heavy work up to 75 lbs (35 kgs).
