My client is looking to appoint a Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) specialist due to business growth. They need a hands-on person with solid experience in the manufacturing / engineering industry who will be a visible presence in the business and can act as an interface with customers on quality related issues, ensure compliance, contribute to continuous improvement, and champion a safety-first culture across their team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic compliance with pragmatic, on-the-ground support in a busy SME manufacturing environment.
As QHSE Manager, you will work closely with colleagues across the business to keep people safe, customers happy with products, and standards high. You will take full ownership of maintaining ISO9001 and 14001 accreditations and help prepare the business for future requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Management: Maintain, audit, and continuously improve our ISO 9001 Integrated Management System. Lead on customer quality issues including Root Cause Analysis, NCR / CAPA processes, and non-conformance management for customer issues developing productive customer relationships. Work closely with production teams to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce defect rates.
- Health & Safety Management: Champion a positive, proactive safety culture. Conduct risk assessments, method statements, and routine safety walks delivering / organising induction and on-going QHSE training and toolbox talks. Lead incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and statutory reporting.
- Environmental Management (ISO 14001): Drive our environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives, including waste management and energy efficiency, helping guide the company toward reduced carbon emissions and sustainable manufacturing practices where possible. Act as the primary point of contact for external accreditation bodies, regulatory inspectors, and customer audits.
We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator, can engage and influence colleagues, has a pragmatic approach and has:
- Proven experience in a QHSE role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Ideally NEBOSH / IOSH qualified.
- Practical experience maintaining and developing integrated management systems for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
- Able to balance compliance with commercial and operational realities.
- Able to build rapport with colleagues at all levels of the business.
Also helpful to have will be:
- Internal audit experience / certification.
- Lean / CI / Six Sigma training.
