Role Overview
As a Tax Manager/Senior Manager, you will oversee a varied portfolio of clients, delivering high‑quality personal tax compliance and advisory services. The role focuses exclusively on tax, covering a broad range of complex planning matters.
The position is primarily based across two of our offices in Stockport and Droylsden, as required.
- Manage a personal tax portfolio of approximately 300–350 clients, ensuring all compliance and advisory work is delivered to a high standard.
- Meet regularly with clients to discuss their tax affairs, provide clear guidance, and build strong, long‑term relationships.
- Prepare and review personal tax returns, ensuring accuracy, timely submission, and full compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Provide proactive personal tax planning advice across areas such as residence and domicile, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, trusts, and income tax planning.
- Identify opportunities to enhance client tax efficiency and communicate recommendations in a clear, practical manner.
- Act as the main point of contact for your portfolio, managing queries, resolving issues, and maintaining exceptional service levels.
- Supervise and support junior team members, reviewing their work and contributing to their development.
- Work closely with senior managers and partners to deliver complex advisory projects and ensure consistent service quality.
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge of UK personal tax legislation and emerging developments.
- Contribute to the growth of the tax department by nurturing client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services.
Experience & Skills Required
- Extensive experience in personal tax, with a proven ability to manage a large and varied portfolio of around 300–350 clients.
- Confident meeting clients in person, discussing their tax affairs, and delivering clear, practical advice.
- Strong technical understanding of UK personal tax, including income tax, CGT, IHT, residence and domicile, and general tax planning.
- Demonstrate experience preparing and reviewing personal tax returns, including complex cases.
- Ability to interpret complex legislation and communicate advice effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members is required.
- Able to work on own initiative with efficient time management.
- A proactive, organised, and solutions‑focused approach, with strong relationship and management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain long‑term client relationships.
- Professional tax qualifications ATT, CTA, are desirable but not essential where substantial relevant experience is demonstrated.
