The Role
We are looking for a motivated Assistant Manager to join our outsourced accounting practice as we work towards building the best outsourced accounting service in the UK. In this role, you will support the day-to-day management of client portfolios, ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of bookkeeping, management accounts, and financial reporting services. You will work closely with senior management to oversee a portfolio of clients across a range of industries, acting as a key point of contact for client queries and helping to maintain strong, long-term relationships.
A solid grounding in accounting principles and experience working within a practice environment are essential. As Assistant Manager, you will also play an important role in supervising and developing the junior and offshore members of the team, reviewing their work and providing guidance to maintain the high standards our clients expect. You will contribute to process improvement initiatives, helping to streamline workflows and leverage cloud-based accounting tools such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional — ideally part-qualified or fully qualified (AAT, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) — looking to take the next step in their career within a dynamic and growing practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary point of contact for portfolio of clients and building long lasting relationships
- Take ownership of client workflows, driving timely completion of all deliverables
- Reviewing and signing off on work prepared by junior team members
- Supervising and mentoring junior and semi-senior staff
- Contributing to workflow planning and capacity management
- Identifying and implementing process improvements
- Supporting senior management with proposals and onboarding of new clients
- Ensuring client work meets compliance requirements
Key Skills & Experience
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping and management accounts preparation
- Knowledge of UK accounting standards and relevant compliance requirements
- Proficiency in cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
- Confident communicator with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
- Ability to manage client expectations and handle queries professionally
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients within a practice environment
- Ability to review work, provide constructive feedback, and develop others
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ambition to grow within a fast-paced, forward-thinking practice
